Air Filter change interval

Featured Replies

My 2c for the cabin filter is that it really depends on the country and area you live. I live in а really dusty city and even if you get the most expensive cabin filters like Mann FP or Mahle Caremetix, you still need to change them no more than 8, maximum 10 months. They can last an year, but you start to smell the diesel exhaust from the old bus or truck in front of you :D

Here is an example of a cabin filter which needed replacement after less than 9500 miles:

Odors from outside, foggy windows and blocked vents are all indications of a cabin filter for replacement.

My general thoughts on the subject of servicing my Skoda superb 2011 till 2019 as a taxi driver i bought this car brand new, serviced it as follows: every 10,000 miles air filter, oil filter, fuel filter, pollen filter and oil.. evry 85,000 miles cam shaft belt replaced, water pump every second camshaft belt, the results speak for themselves, car at 0 miles total mileage on car when i replaced it, it was at 433,000 miles with the same engine ,gearbox, Turbo, exhaust, glow plugs since the day i drove it out the dealers, due to the regional council the taxi cant be more than ten years old, hence the reason for replacement, new car is Skoda Super 3 , happy motoring.

Just like me then.  I recently changed my 2015 Octavia 1.6 TDi for a petrol 1.5 TSi only due to LEZ regulations. The car had just under 200k miles when I sold it.  Oil, filter, air and fuel filter changed every 9k miles.  Original engine, turbo, clutch, dpf, no issues with EGR or injectors, original glow plugs. Only things changed was one drop link, two front shock absorbers and an exhaust sensor. Oh, and heater blower motor.

I’ve just changed my cabin/pollen filter on a little more than 10k miles and wanted to show you the difference( the one on the right was as clean as the one on the left ).

I’ve also took a shot of the label on the new filter box.

I wanted to buy Mahle, but found Knecht on a better price. It’s the same company and therefore the products they offer.

BTW do you have any tips how attach back the little arm for slow falling of the glove box? It’s a pain in the neck, back and everything 😀

I've always had success putting the slow release arm on first and then clipping the hinge points back on second.

Thanks @J_D!  I’ve just managed to do it by putting on the arm on the right place and clipping it by pushing it with a big screwdriver on top. My fingers are fat, that was the issue 😂

I made up a tool for this, using a narrow strip of alloy about 200mm long, with about 12mm right-angle bend at one end - you can use it to unhook or press down the clip at the end of the damper-rail.

Could you make one up for me please? I'd be happy to pay for the materials.

Hi Noms, I'll check to see if I have some spare alloy strip - will you be able to collect?

I can certainly collect if you’re local. I’m in NW London. Otherwise, happy to pay for postage. Thanks mate.

You may have started something here Warrior193. I would also love a tool to make changing the cabin filter easier. I would not mind paying extra for your time, materials and of course postage. You could make a bit of money here mate. No pressure though if you don't want to make an extra one, as I am being a bit cheeky asking.

Can you upload a pic of this too, please?

Spoiler alert - it's a pretty basic tool!

I will try to upload a pic of what I made, hopefully my computer skills are better than my metal-working ones  Will include approx. sizes.

Would love to get my hands on such a tool too - that damper rail is a nightmare to deal with!

I just use a flat head electricians screwdriver as it is thin and long enough to reach through the side to unhook and hook the damper on and off.
