Remove front passenger seat bolt

Featured Replies

Good evening, I’m trying to fit tether points in my car for the kids car seat. They fit under the seat rail and the bolt goes back in and through the tether. I started undoing the bolt and noticed underneath it inside the chassis was a square metal washer of some sort - will this fall in to the  abyss when I unscrew then bolt fully? Or is it a locator washer for the bolt?

Cheers

No one?

Is the square thing maybe a captive nut, into which the bolt screws?

I doubt very much that it will move enough to cause you any trouble as the bolt comes free.

Many thanks! I unscrewed it slowly and it was fine! Fitted the baby seat tether brackets and jobs a good un! Both kids seats are in and the babies is no longer tethered through the back of the passenger seat.

if anyone else wants to do this you need to buy the long arm tether loops from Sweden!

I didn't quite get what you were trying to fit, our Britax Multi-Tech II does not need any extra modifications for installation.

(in our model) when it's installed rear-facing the child seat is secured by the car's rear seatbelt and the two loop belts (supplied) that and are meant to be tightened around the two side supports of the front car seat and connected on to the child seat's back clips (similar to standard seat-belts)image.png.c6213049baf62e970b7f7e7f5d333b39.png

In your picture, those back clips seem loose and why are they entering the seat's back pocket?  (scrap that! It seemed really strange so I looked closer and the belts are going where they should be, there were just hidden by the angle of the shot!, it's only the extra loos bits that are going in the pocket...)

Seems like a different installation process?

I did that initially but prefer not to do this as don’t want to damage the leather - plus means I can’t move the seat at all if I wanted too. So I fit the tether loops. By fitting these the front passenger gets quite a bit of extra room. Had the rails been a tad longer would have been ok to tether around them but they are too far underneath.

I nearly got that seat but went with the Max Way plus. She’s only just 3 but 21.5kg and 103cm. She’s going to be a tall girl but dads 6ft5 so that’s why - where as I’m Yoda

If you look closely the excess strap I’ve popped in the pocket the actual straps are tight and can hardly see them tbh from that angle. They are nice and tight - it’s the same install as yours. I’m anal about car seats hence why she’s rear facing and will be till she’s not able to go rear facing due to out growing this seat

Gotcha, all clear now. These brackets seem pretty handy if they can be installed without too much hassle which I understand is the case. So basically you insert them between the rails and the floor and through the seat's bolt?

I might have to look into them as the first one is now forward facing but we are moving the young one in such a car seat soon so it'll be rear-facing all over again for some years (we gave up around 3, 3.5 years old with the older one).

One of the beauties of having a Superb is that you can select any child seat you prefer without front passenger room worries :)

@Cookievts   This is what me and some other people were referring to when arguing about the extra comfort/space of the Superb regarding child seats. See how close to the back of the front seat the child seat stands, and that's on a Superb which has easily 10cm (if not more) extra leg-room at the back compared to the Golf.

I have actually set the Max way plus with extra leg room here - she’s buckets of leg room now!
If needed I could put it back so it’s touching the back seat and there would be quite a bit of room for the front passenger. Put it one way this seat was in a fiesta and all 4 of us could fit in! So it’s me simply fitting it in big leg room mode. But in this car she has loads of leg room and the front passenger does too!! In the fiesta is was a tad tight for the passenger tbh didn’t go far in the car.

the other seat is brand new picked it up literally a day ago - Cybex Solutions Z Fix high back booster seat for my 6.5 year old. He’s behind me (driver seat) he’s soooo much leg room! I can stand behind my own seat and I’m a big woman lol - can’t believe how much room this car has I love it!

Reviving this topic as I'm installing a rear facing seat again for our youngest one and the idea of not having to limit the front seat's adjustment this time sounds appealing. Just two questions for @short1uk  or others that have used them, there is the "long" and "extra long" version of those, which one fits the Superb better?  I can of-course go and measure where the seat screw is exactly but just would like to confirm my finding.

My second question is, from what I see in the picture, these brackets are either squeezed between the seat rail and the floor or go over the seat rail (can't really tell from the photo)

In any case, if the OEM bolts have been selected in an optimum performance-cost fashion there would be a reduction in thread engagement. Surely it does not seem to be that thick (looks like 2mm??) and I'm guessing by the typical over-engineering applied there should be enough thread left, just my engineering back-ground kicks in when I look at such stuff and I was wondering if there could be a possibility for any compromise of the connection's strength...

Ok so I had this dilemma as well! Long or short I went short and so they come out at an angle from underneath the seat which is fine by me tbh. The tether does touch the seat (plastic) a tad but not massively.

the bolts where fairly long if I recall rightly and so the only depth is the original metal frame and the extra 3mm of the tether metal.

if I was buying again I would go longer I think and have them like the picture there not as I’ve done on an angle

For the length question I guess measuring the distance from bolt's hole to the end of the front seat's guide rail should provide the answer as to which version is better (just haven't been able to get to the car yet). If the bracket is shorter than that distance then the metal tether is going out while still inside/over the guide rail correct?

Regarding the bolt, it's all about how much thread engagement is there in the first place. My understanding is that it is much longer than the 2-3mm of the tether's thickness so it's fine to re-use the OEM bolts.

In the octavia I didn’t use these metal tethers tbh I went around that bolt under the rail. No fouling of the straps but they do touch the seat more

deffo go longer on the metal tethers

Hmm, I'm not quite sure how you mounted the straps there tbh!

I just went out and measured the distance from the rail bolt to the end of the guide rail on the Superb and it's 9-10cm so one should get the extra long version in order to install it as it's foreseen, with the metal tether clearing fully the guide rail.
