It depends on your definition of power, my little 1.4 TSI copes with everything our family throws at it...

Looks like you might need some spring assistors on the back though...   ☺️

  • Don’t forget a 4x2 with proper tyres will easily outperform a 4x4 with the standard summer tyres on snow/ ice. Having 4x4 with summer tyres mean you’ll be able to spin 4 wheels, and the 4x4 on it ow

  • @silver1011 you were right !   I now own a Kodiaq, SE-L spec, I drove home in the dark last night, those LED headlights are fantastic, i like the cornering lights too, i also love the seats,

Everything modern on a modern car is expensive to replace.

Nah, the photo plays tricks, the drive is quite steep down, the road is quite steep up, when level it's about perfect.

looked again at new, they dont do the petrol 4x4 manual it seems, so its not an option, but the used ones im seeing are £5-10k cheaper anyway

...up to £10k cheaper 😲 .

  • Author

yea, some 2 years old, 30k or under, going for £16-20k most of em

its a shame they dont do the manual 4x4 petrol from new now, as id like to compare, ive never owned a brand new car and this might have been my only chance to do it

Do you really need a manual?  DSG is a great choice... Once you had DSG you'll never go back....

ive never driven a DSG, ive only driven an automatic once and i hated it lol, they dont feel like driving to me at all, takes away from the experience, plus the £££ when they go wrong aswell

The DSG is a manual gear box - with 2 clutches that shift automatically - not an old Torq converter style..

If you really want you can drive them manually on the stick or with paddles..

Try one before you dismiss it....

As for going wrong.... they are probably as reliable as any other system on the car...

As for repair costs... take out the extended WTY.... if you are worried.

do they have a completely normal gear stick ? like 1-6th ?

  • Author

just had a look, doesnt seem to be available on the 1.4/1.5 with 4x4, only the 2.0L petrol, which bumps the price up to £36k which is beyond me

If you don't want a DSG ( my preference would be manual too ) then buy a manual. And yes you are correct, DSG's are more expensive to run. The only box that officially requires no servicing is the DQ200 but in the era of models you're looking at, the DQ200 does not have a good reputation for reliability. Just google DQ200.   I have the DQ200 in my 2019 Karoq by the way.

But can't get my head around your question - do they have a normal gear stick? No they don't, the DSG gearstick acts like a switch. You can go from 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd, 3rd to 4th exactly like a 'normal' gear stick. Other than not having to depress a clutch there's no difference And if your car has flappy paddles, you can do this from the steering wheel.

But as you say, OP want's a manual so completely pointless anyone debating the pros and cons of a DSG on this thread. And as a new car is out of the question, that discussion's a dead duck too.

It's a £375 option on the SE but you could use the maps from your phone.

Uses the Bluetooth on your phone and projects onto the info screen using Smartlink so all the icons on your phone are available to use. A good salesperson will talk you through it and even set it up for you. Any other cost options you might want just ask as I have the Kodiaq configurator open on my computer at work at the moment.:hi:

Not sure where the phone charging port is on the Kodiaq either in front of the gearlever or in the front cubby/storage box between the seats.:)

Do you need something as big as the Kodiaq or is 7 seats important? The wife's 2018 Karoq SEL has nice alcantara sport heated front seats, sat nav, front/rear parking sensors and a reversing camera with a manual gearbox and economical 1.5TSi petrol engine with 148bhp (150PS) and it has covered 26,000 miles reliably in the 30 months we have owned it and new it was £23,500 on a 67 plate and I would think dealers sell them for around £16,500 now. Just a thought and the interior quality is superior to the Kodiaq if you look closely and nearly a match for my 2019 Superb.:)

dont need/want 7 seats, but want a big boot, also want more interior space aswell, cant have anyone sat behind me in my fabia, ive long legs so have to have the seat right back on its last setting

we go camping, and trips up to Scotland too, and i want to be able to put everything in the boot, nothing on the back seats

Karoq has either sliding or removeable rear seats from SEL spec upwards which makes it very practical. I'm 6 feet tall and there is enough room for a 6 foot passenger behind me. Depends whether you are using the 3 back seats plus need the 650 litre Kodiaq boot. When you remove the Karoq's back seats like the Yeti it turns into a decent sized van.:whew:

Your phone will be plugged in to the USB socket so it's not using the phone battery.
