Changed fuel filter problem

Featured Replies

I serviced my yeti friday for the first time.  Did the oil and filter and the air and fuel.

The fuel filter is leaking and i am not sure what i have done wrong.

Been out today and started smelling diesel after 20 miles.  When i arrived i checked under the bonnet and the filter was leaking and fuel was in the area.

Did i push the filter home correctly on the connector or did i not screw the bolts down tight enough ?

PS. I didnt fill the fuel filter up with fuel or do any purging.  Reading on the forums now i seem to have made a **** up.  Am i in trouble ?

It would be useful to know the age of the car and the size and code of the engine that you have fitted. A photo of the fuel filter showing the leak would also help diagnosis.

2013 2L diesel.  I think its the 100bhp engine.

Is the code of the engine the engine number on my log book ?

I will do the photos now

Where abouts is the leak?

Are you sure that the filter that you fitted is exactly the same as the one that you took out as, in the case of my 2012 2L Octavia diesel, there are two different manufacturers of the fuel filter housing that require different filters.

i'm not sure.  Just gave my reg to the supplier and got this mann filter.  It looked very similar.

We got back tonight late, so i will open the filter up in the morning.  The other filter is in the bin so will try dig it out.

the leak has fuel on the top cap.  There is fuel underneath it.  The other day i hear a small hissing sound and thought nothing of it.  The sound was there again today.

You may have a badly corroded filter top that is leaking (and not unheard of unfortunately) or one of the pipe connections could be leaking.

Ok.  i will check in the morning.  Can you buy the tops or do you have to buy the whole unit ?

The car has done 75k miles

If the dished section is filling up with fuel then the rust has perforated, if the leak is further down then it will be the sealing O ring damaged.

If the top plate is intact now is the time to use some rust convertor and protective paint, a job I must also do.

Hi all

I opened the filter housing yesterday and just fiddled with the seal a little and pushed the filter home a bit more.  Then screwed shut, this time screwing each screw a little until they all bit tight.

Today we have no leak !  So fingers crossed i have solved the issue.

Can anyone tell me why "inspection now" keeps popping up on the screen when we start the car ?  I reset the service warning, but am getting this.  Does it mean i have something not right on the car still ?
