What does it mean?

It means ur shock absorbers r leaking n will need to b replaced.

Not cheap if they're DCC shocks....

Bit of a hyperbole reply that one. The light misting is a common advisory (Google it) and doesn’t 100% mean trouble.

No need to jump as yet.  Many people have reported the same year on year with no issues.  Shocks have a tendency to allow oil to pass the seals when under high speed impacts.  This is the same for all applications of oil fill dampers.  If not excessive it is a sign that your seals are getting lubrication.  The trick is to assess what is excessive.

I had this advisory on my previous car at the 3 year and 4 year MOTs, never changed the shocks and never had the advisory again for the remaining 6 years I owned it.

The difference? 3 & 4 year MOTs at a dealer, the rest at an independent - go figure???

In the UK where there is a 3 years manufacturing warranty many will notice that there is no mention when the car is in for a service @ 24 months / 18,500-20,000 miles or even at a Service 1 month before a Warranty expires and you get a MOT done of Misting.

There might well be Misting but that is not brought to your attention when collecting the keys and likely not an Advisory on the MOT.

They aren't allowed to remove anything so cannot look at the underside of the engine bay. This is noted as under covers fitted. Same as if you have kids seat fitted.

Since it had a mechanical oil based predecessor of DCC that's not very likely 🥴

Apologies, I mistakenly assumed you had conventional dampers. Citroen hydropneumatic?

Simple test to assess dampers is to bounce each corner of the car, if the damper has failed that corner will continue bouncing for longer.  Not had a car yet that bounced more than a cycle.

We always get the first MOT done just before the warranty expires so anything they find should be covered.

Car has just mot, extended due to COVID. Misting on front shock absorber was an advisory. I knew this was going to happen as it was reported to me on a previous service carried out by an independent.

Reported to dealer who claimed it was normal and would not change under warranty.

Today I had cause to speak to Skoda customer service due to unable to telephone the dealer. During the conversation I mentioned I wanted to find out the cost of a shock absorber and explained about the misting issue. He told me that they were only under warranty for 6months and it was classed as fair wear and tear.

Seems totally wrong as only Skoda is able to say it’s faulty so overriding the Mot tester.

There  must be a conflict of interests if you have a mot carried out at a dealer.

I have an L&K so have the DCC, haven’t got price from the dealer yet but did enquire at a motor factors and was told £275 +vat, they suggested I get a price from dealer as sometime dealer is cheaper.
Will probably leave it and give them a good clean if it’s just misting before next Mot

some mot garages have been known to spray shockers with wd40 🙃

you've got a leaking shocker sir and we always advise customers to replace both sides 😬

the best place to take your car for an mot is your local council run mot station, they dont do repairs so no incentive to rip you off

I took it to a testing station that do not do repairs

Here in Lincolnshire we have a mot chain called we only mot, so they have nothing gain if your car fails.

Yes when I was in the motor trade many years ago it was always good practice to change springs and shock absorbers in pairs but that seems to have gone out the window now.

it must be difficult for a place that does'nt do repairs to make any real money though,  an mot costs about £40, mot tester must be on at least £15 an hour, then you have all the other overheads like rent, rates garage equipment etc.

the council run places are doing other work on there own vans/cars etc so a bit easier for them

£54.85 for a UK MOT and obviously places can do it cheaper.

I believe that some garages who do repairs and change tyres will discount the cost ogf the MOT to have the chance of making more money from so called needed repairs.

yes but not many places charging  £54.85, local council mot place charges £40 with no repairing for general public

@310golfr  'Obviously.'

As to not many places, that is not very accurate.

Many many places do charge £54.85 or the appropriate cost for the class of vehicle. Often where there is no competition from other testing stations.

& people / businesses can make money / profits / a living doing MOT's honestly. (Then some like to run them as a front, as around Glasgow...)

As a front nit really sure what you mean.

Drugs money?

Each and every MOT station's tests are logged, so the income must surely be the same as the levels of MOT test carried out.

If you are talking about drugs, it's usually a car wash all cash no cards

@A1cos

We are well OT now.

Businesses can be run honestly and look busy busy busy and be busy and that allows plenty of coming and going of vehicles.

Drugs is one business that goes well with Taxis / Airport Transport / Public Service Vehicles / Football Clubs.

So that covers Glasgow / Strathclyde and other parts of Scotland.

Even more Cash with no cards in Ice Cream / Burger Vans, Karting Tracks, Play Centres etc etc.

Cash / Notes is not King as a PITA to receive, move about, pass on, bank etc as they can be marked and traced.

Coins are great, hence there were Arcades / Bandit's /  Coin Operated Gaming Machines / Launderettes / £1 Bottle Bars in Clubs etc etc

A reason to bank larger amounts of untraceable coins, put it in the tills and vans / stalls floats etc, and get shot of notes in the change etc.

Putting it to the Football Grounds was handy at the time of people buying season tickets with cash money in the good old days.

in the good old days it did'nt matter how many faults on your car, you could get a blank mot at the barras market

£30 was the going rate but sometimes when they where desperate could be had for £20

you could even get an honours degree in what ever subject yea fancied  😎

Those days have not gone no mater what the DVSA / DfT or Transport Ministers might say.
