Tyre Question? 4x4

Featured Replies

Hi Guys I recently had to replace all 4 tyres - as i couldnt get the same make/brand as the front one which had plenty more trad etc. Do you really need to keep the same tyres on all 4 wheels just because its a 4x4 - it was mentioned by costco thaat they couldnt just replace the 2 back tyres on my 4x4 but had to do all 4 as the Haldex unit would not be in warranty if different? I thought this was for old 4x4's and not relevant any more - any one shed light on this?

i have a edition 4x4 2.0tdi

Costco 'fitters / center managers' are the very people that say they can not fit new tyres to just the front of cars they have to go to the rear.  'Insurance you know / they say'.

They do not know their different Haldex's from their elbows.

It's always advisable to have the same tyres all round on any car, and so I rotate them every year so that they wear out together. (Although this does also contradict advice to have more tread on the rear wheels than the front for front-wheel drive cars!)

Although if you say the rear tyres had worn out first, perhaps you'd already rotated them??
