Basic LED vs Full LED

Featured Replies

Hello

Is there a spec sheet or an explanation on the exact differences of these two?

I was not able to find it via google.

It is not in the owners manual.

The salesmen do not know exactly.

the repair guys don't know exactly (because they have not fixed it yet for anyone).

AFAICT:

Basic LED has LED daylights and LED low beam.

Full LED has additionally high beam.

But there are a few questions still:

- what are the lumens of each of these?

- do Full LED lights also have automatic high beam? Because this is not among the options to buy separately.

- what would be the repair procedures in both cases? Let's say, I get Basic LED, which has a halogen high beam. And the bulb dies. I presume i can just replace the bulb? Whereas if the low beam dies, i have to replace the whole fixture? While again, if i get full LED lights, whatever dies/is damaged, i always have to replace the whole fixture?

I will likely go with a trip which does not have Full LED, but where i live, there is a quite good temporary trim option which also includes Full LED among other things and i am worried would it incur huge expenses down the line.

While I do not know the answers to your questions, I have the Basic LED in my Scala. I find that, as I live in a city, the Basic LED covers 99% of my driving. It is rare that I use the front fog lights or high beam. It does look quite different with the high beams on as you see both the white led light and the yellower light from the other bulbs. So  Full LED does look better when all the lights are on.

Otherwise, the LED headlights are great - very bright and clear on the road ahead, and the daytime running lights look nice too.

LEDs last a lot longer so should not be much of a concern, but I imagine they would cost a lot to replace (luckily the 5 year warranty is standard here). The other bulbs look like normal bulbs to replace, so much cheaper.

My new Kamiq came with the full led option - its includes front dynamic indicators - same as the back, cornering fogs, and dynamic range etc changes to your style of driving, haven't had too much time to test yet as its still summertime, but the full beam is amazing even compared to xenon full package on my old octavia - would assume Scala will be very similar as on same platform ?

Thanks!

I was mostly worried about the price of repair, as I wanted to keep potential maintenance costs as low as possible. That's why I did not also get the virtual cockpit among other things.

I ended up NOT taking the FULL LED.

I do not live in the city, but most of my commute is very well lit with LED streetlights, on highway we don't use highbeam, so highbeam has limited use for me. Maybe those could be the arguments also FOR LED highbeam, as it will last longer for sure, But I was worried mostly about replacement in the case I break the fixtures completely.

Sadly, Skoda dealership was not able to tell me (and refused to speculate) the prices for replacing th whole fixture, as the car is still new and they have not had any full fixture replacements yet. So maybe the difference in repairs is not actually that great.

Nevertheless, I did not feel like paying 1000€ just for LED highbeam, especially considering i live in a country with an average salary of ~900€. This alone is an important factor in determining your perspective, sadly.
