How long did your OE tyres last?

Featured Replies

I've got a 55 plated Fabia vRS. I'm guessing we all got the same tyres. Just passed 10k and the fronts are looking like they've led an interesting life.

When did you have to change yours?

I changed my standard wheels to VRS wheels with brand new Michelin tyres on.

They last just over 6k and were almost illegal when one got a big puncture and I replaced them.

I've got Marshalls on now and they have around 2/3s tread left and done about 6k also.

The Michelins seem very soft and wear quickly whereas the Marshalls wear harder and IMO handle better and are quiter.

Michelins ~£125

Marshalls ~£55

I know which I prefer. :)

i have a 55 plate vrs on bridgestones done 7k miles and have a good 4/5 mil left on my tyres i suppose it all depends on how you drive

LoL, yes, I drive like a tool :o

I know a guy at work who has done 14k on his Ibiza TDI OE tyres and they still look new, he drives like my gran though.

I have an 05 vrs. Came with continentals on it. I am just shy of 20k and at my service asked the dealer to swap the fronts for the backs. Reckon I can do another 10k easily before I need to replace them.

For those not that great at maths that will be 30k on original tyres by the time I get some new ones.

I did have a look at my rears this afternoon, and they're barely touched. I think the fronts still have some more stories to tell. I'll swap 'em over when the need arrises and reckon I can hit 20k easily without cause for concern.

I got 30k out of my front Michelins and the rears still look pretty good at nearly 40k:)

changed front michs with 2.5-3mm left at 26.2k, 29k currently on rear michs

i had contis. they lasted 8k + 1 pothole. soft sidewalls total pap. could maybe have ,made 10k

toyo t1 r now £160 a pair. cheaper than the contis though

mine lasted about 7 days.

mine lasted about 7 days.

how many miles covered in them 7 days ?

More like how many trackdays in 7 days I imagine? :)

Have Conti Sport Contact II from new, run by me and learner drivers. Rotated tyres at 10K service, all equal wear at 20K service, Will probably be ready to circulate agian at 27-30K then all done by 35 I guess. The learners dont drive it too hard, emergency stops and lots of manouvering, but I compensate for that;)

One dead one currently with a massive bulge in the sidewall.

Wear wise... 10800 miles and 4mm left on the fronts. So they would have been shot by 15-18K. Back are on 6-7mm still.

Running conti sport contact IIs on a 55 plate VRS.

Interesting to report Bracknell Tyre And Battery can do me a CSC II fitted for

On the SDI - about 8k miles, with them rotated at 4k. The fronts were almost down to the canvas :D

On the 1.4 16v, about 11k, again with rotation at about 5k :D

I think I have the record though - nice set of 18" Uniroyal Rainsports, about 20 minutes before the tread fell off :D Hiya Paul

I switched my OE Primacies after 10k, and then got rid of the lot after 30k.

Having since learned that you should have your newest tyres on the back, I think I'll probably be getting rid of my fronts after about 20k, putting the backs on the front (the back tyres hardly seem to wear at all), and getting a new pair to put on the back. I'm using Proxes T1-Rs now, so I expect they'll wear a little faster than the OE Michelins, but at least I'll have some grip in the wet! ;):D

55 plater

12 k and just roated front and back fronts have 4 backs have 7

cheers

I rotated my Dunlops when I got my car at 11.5k, and they now still look like they have a good few months left at 30.5k

Not too bad. I'll get SP Sports again I think when I need them.

Fronts dead at 21K (Contis). Getting replaced this weekend.

Backs like new.

I'm at 31k on the original michelins and the fronts will be replaced in about a month or so. The rears should see the year out.

I'm doing too much motorway driving!

(applies to my vRS)

Original Michelin Primacy's lasted 19k before a puncture led to the fronts being changed early.

Toyo T1-R's lasted a further 14k with perhaps 1k more wear to go when the car was traded in.

Original Michelin Primacy's were still on the rear with half their tread still to go at 33k miles LOL!

The new Sport has come with Pirelli tyres, should last well i think :)

Quite a few stories of bulges in the side wall - just had to replace one of mine for that grrr... the downside of low profile tyres and pot holed roads i guess

Would guess i will get about 30k from mine - swapping the fronts to rear after about 20k

Not too bad considering the performance (Although I did manage 120k out of the rears on my old 306 though and then they were only replaced due to age and a bulge in the side wall....)

Fronts were shot at 14k on standard power, rears still going strong now (40k)

I have not rotated the tyres and I replace them when I don't feel they're grippy enough in the wet (which was still well above the legal limits).

I may put a new set on the rears and rotate the rears to the front to wear them out next though.

Remap will eat my tyres a lot quicker, but I want my rear ARB back on as that had a very positive impact on general grip perceived by me (especially when planting it a little (too) much during cornering)

25 k on OE Firestones on Fabia 1.4 8v, just changed fronts courtesy of nice pot hole puncture!

Backs still 5mm tread no other faults.

Don't drive like a Granny but lots of stop-starts on my commute.

So far my fronts have lasted 46k miles:D :D :D

Though they were originally on the back until about 26-27k last august when the then-new fronts were vibrating too much and i swapped them all round. They are 1-1.5 mm off the limit, so we'll see how long they can last!
