Xenon headline replacements

Featured Replies

Have recently changed the xenon headlights on my 2014 Octavia VRS as one of them had failed.

Since I've done so I'm constantly getting headlight warnings even though the lights are working fine. Have had the fault cold deleted but keeps coming back on.

I got the bulbs from Ebay - had to go through quite a few until i found the right ones, but now although they work im wondering if they were in fact the right ones.

Has anyone had this issue and if so what the best way to address?

Thanks

Jonny

Don't you hate it when your thread header gets "autocorrected" :)

Do you need to go into "Car" on your main display and simply reset the warning?

Just confirming this is a VRS so it has factory Xenons as standard?  I only ask as the bulb is a D3s and as far as I know theres only one D3s bulb so should have been easy enough to source.

What brand bulb did you buy, what dashboard warning are you getting and what fault codes are you getting

There are lots of fake and low quality xenon bulbs on the market.

If you didn't buy a reputable brand from an authorised reseller, they could just be dodgy bulbs :)

What bulbs did you buy and how many did you need to get through?!

They are fairly common D3S. I replaced mine with some Osrams and they worked fine first time and still going strong 3 years later. Avoid the cheap crap and stick with decent branded bulbs like Osram, Philips etc.

+1 for Osram although buy from reputable company as I've heard there are fakes about and its hard to tell them apart apparently.

Well pointed out. ;)

I’ve two genuine Osram Night Breaker Unlimited D3S bulbs I removed from my A6 if anyone needs them. I’ve had these in the Audi and my old B5.5 Passat and they are a brilliant upgrade but as everyone says make sure they are genuine. Thankfully osram have an online checker so you can verify them.

Legit ones have an authenticity checker which should help, but would agree better to buy from reputable source.

Hi Guys,

Just had the warning pop up on the dash yesterday "check left dipped headlight beam". Checked the dipped beam and it flickers as it comes on so it's probably on it's way out. Is it true that xenons need to be replaced in pairs or can you get away with just changing a single bulb? Will be looking at replacing with the Osrams as suggested above.

@lilstrop If you are keeping the car and can afford to purchase two then it makes sense to replace both of them, then you can keep the ok one as a spare...

But no, IMO not particularly necessary to replace both.

Gotta say anytime I've had a buld go out I've always replaced them both, but maybe that's just me.

Thanks guys,

x2 Osrams on order!
