Tavia steels on a fabia?

Featured Replies

Ok I'm thinking of doing a suspension upgrade and would love low profile tyres to go with it. The only thing is that alloys on a drving school is a complete non starter, so was wondering if I could use the 16inch steels of a tavia and any clues as to a suitable size tyre to get the same overall diameter etc. Your thoughts........

Octy has 15" steels, early/import vRS had 16" allys, as does the vRS estate.

Superb has 16" steels on the Classic, and 16 allys on the Comfort, with Elegance having 17" allys.

15inch sounds interesting.....

So any ideas on the tyre size the furby uses 185/60 on a 14....... Now usiing my maths the following holds true....

aspect size (ie 40,45,50,60,65 etc) = (height of tyre(mm)/width of tyre(mm))*100

Therefore a 195/50 (aspect formula 50.41) on a 15inch rims a very close fit in terms of overall size to a 185/60 on a 14 but would it fit or be too wide ???????? Now a 16inch wheel could have a 185/45 (aspect formula 46.27) or a 195/45 (aspect formula 43.89) so neither would be an exact fit but seriously close.

And is the change worth it?????

Are you sure that thats a good idea.. your suppost to teach people to slow down for corners

The full-size steel spare wheel on an Octavia Elegance takes the same 205/55 * 16 tyres as the alloys.

So, that's the tyre size/profile sorted :)

Now all you have to do is source a set of wheels to match the Octavia Elegance spare :(

Yep we do slow down but sometimes not quite enough or we have to have a sudden change of direction!!!!!! Also have you ever seen an istructor on the way to a lesson..... time is money you know!!!!!

i have a set of 15 inch octy wheels and tyres if you want them?

Standard Octy 15" steel wheel comes with 195/65 tyres.

The extra cm of width on each tyre shouldn't stop it from fitting - plenty of people on here have wide wheels in their Fabia arches.

As for whether it's worth it...I'd say no. Gaining an extra cm on each corner won't make much difference - at least, not as much as investing in some very good tyres for the 14s. Which you could probably fit 195mm wide tyres on anyway... :)

run the 15" rims with 205-50s toyos and will stick like **** to a blanket

Cheers for the offer of the 15inch I really holding out for the 16 or 17 option as the difference in the side wall height is only 12.5mm when switching to the 15 so the postive effects will be minimal....... I'm also thinking the smaller the sidewall the less risk of the pupil kerbing it and blowing the tyre! I can stand getting some new covers ever so often but decent tyres are so expensive. Personally I swear by uniroyal rallye 540's. Very good in the wet and more than a match for most things in the dry.

the 15's have a brand new set of tyres on them

Stop tempting me! Seriously though will consider it but is they have the 195/65 on them the tyre is to big for a fabia and would knock the speedo out of calibration........
