Map update, Help..

Featured Replies

Hey guys.
I would like to update my map for navigation, I have seen in several places also at Skoda Portal

that it is just to download the file and put it on the SD card (of course unzip first) or buy a larger 32GB if I want the whole of Europe.

must only be a minimum of Class 10.
But I can not make it work, have tried copying from the original and over to 32gb and it also does not work when I put it in the car.

I have formatted the card in the same standard as the original Skoda SD card. Any good ideas?

My car is an Octavia Combi 1.4TSI DSG from 2018 with Amundsen navi.

With an Amundsen you MUST use a Genuine Skoda SD card, a normal SD card will not work.

Get yourself a second Skoda SD card off eBay (MUCH cheaper than from a dealer), make sure you get a 32GB with with a part number beginning 5L0.

okay thanks for answering

just makes no sense to me, Skoda advertises that we can just go in ourselves and update our navigation through the Skoda update portal,

it has approved my VIN number and tells me what to download. But it is not that easy?

Help me understand, is it the Skoda card that must be original or is it the file that is not working.
Would I be able to put new card updates on the original Skoda 32Gb SD card in the future

With the Amundsen you must use an original Skoda/VW SD card...

Other SD cards will not work.

Yes, I have been told that.

but as I wrote earlier, when I have a 32GB original Skoda sd card, can I then download from the Skoda update portal and then transfer to it in the future?

Yes - if it's a genuine Skoda card for an MIB2, it should work regardless of size.

Where do i check for 100% sure if it's a MIBII i have and not an MIBI

So if i take my 16gb genuine skoda card I have in my car now, then i will be able to tranfer new file from Skoda update?

Do i destroy the sd card if i formate it, or should i just erase the file.

MIB2 is from around 2015 if I remember correctly.

2018 should definitely be MIB2. You can format the card and it'll be fine.

Ohh super, then it makes good sense to buy a geniue Skoda 32Gb SD card

I was reluctant to format my genuine Skoda card so I bought one from ebay, I can find the seller if you want, It worked and I then formatted my original card and downloaded this years maps, it worked. I also had no joy trying to use any other SD  card that a Skoda one.

Hey.... sounds good, yeah give me the sellers name if you can find him again..

I have found one on eBay. Maybe it is the same??

I bought this one for my Amundsen MIB2 in July and can't fault it. I checked with the seller that it was 32GB before purchasing it and I formatted it a couple of times and I tried a couple of different maps on it to make sure it was future proof and I am well satisfied with it. Took about 2 weeks for delivery from Lithuania but I wasn't in a rush and it was well worth the wait.

On the information screen look at the part number of the Amundsen - if it begins 5Q0 then you have a MIB2, if it begins 5E0 then you have a MIB1.

Hi guys, could anyone please explain how to update maps on the 32 gb sd card that came with my 19 plate karog 1.5.

Ive tried 3 times and the process freezes at about 45%. Is it possible im trying to download the wrong maps.

I was trying to download 2018/9 europe 2020.

It seems its not as easy to update as the vid on youtube suggests.

I

Have the original Skoda supplied SD Card, have you reformatted the card @ FAT32 and tried.

Get your chassis number from the car and make a note of it. ( usually  in a little window in either driver or passenger side of windscreen )

Goto the Skoda downloads site and put in your chassis number.

Download the latest  maps file onto a Windows PC  ( not a MAC ).

extract the downloaded file onto your reformatted card.

Insert the card and follow the on screen instructions .

My car is an Octavia Combi 1.4TSI DSG from 2018 with Amundsen navi.

Only way I could do mine.

Had to be done on a PC - dont use a MAC

download zip file.

do not unzip .

Open the zip file, then Copy / Paste to the fully formatted SD Card.

Just out of interest, I downloaded the full 2020/21 euro map (that says 32BG card only) which extracted to 14GB. I moved the original files off the card (incase I messed it up) and then copied the new 14GB maps directory to it. I thought it might have slowed down the satnav a bit due to it being near the limit of the card, but it seems to be working fine so far.

Hi can anyone help i formatted my sd card accidentally. Then tried to down load it, once that downloaded i went to copy but it just starts then stops any ideas?

The update you downloaded will need extracting with 7 zip or just right click on it and choose extract from the menu if you're on a recent version of Windows. Right click on the map folder that has extracted and click properties to see how big it is. Then right click on the sd card drive and click properties to see how much space is available. The 2020/21 A1 map should be 14GB when extracted and my 16GB card has 14.8GB free on it, so the map would fit on mine, but you might have less space for some reason. If you've got less space on the sd card then the size of the extracted map, then you'll have to pick a smaller map. If the available space on the sd card is larger than the extracted map, then it might be a problem with your sd card reader or your USB cable if it is an external sd card reader.

Hope that helps.

Choosing a format option with a smaller cluster size will make more space available for the maps - how so? There are many, many small files (much smaller than the cluster size) so the smaller the cluster size the less "wasted" space.
