Hi everybody would like info on engine cleaning of carbon on my Skoda Roomster.

Hi. A great starting point would be to tell us which engine type your car has. Age of car and mileage too would be good.

What makes you think something needs cleaning?

Hi Wino not very clued up on engine,s please be patient with me, my roomster is a 1.2 petrol registed 2014 I have been told by a mechanic that the T S I engine I have are suseptable to a build up of carbon after 60k mileage and will need a soda clean at £240 which he claims will give me a further 60k trouble free driving.

I suspect you will get another 60k trouble free motoring without having this done.Speaking as someone who still regards £240 as a lot of money.

But its all new to me ,and I thought this went out with Austin 7s.

Thanks bobspark all comments are welcome and will help me to make an informed decision. chow.

On reflection I did purchase slick oil treatments for engine and gearbox for my VW Jetta years ago, but like all my VW engined cars ,the engines outlived the car bodies and as soon as some rust got into them I lost interest and they had to go.This despite been kept in a garage overnight. I'm more hopeful with the Roomster as in common with all modern cars the bodywork seems more resistant to rust.

Hi everbody

More information to support my previous posts, My Skoda Roomster was entered into a local garage for repairs. This is information from the invoice, diagnostic test carried out ECU, CYLINDER ONE POOR OUTPUT FROM THE COIL PACK AND FOULED UP SPARK PLUGS ON CYLINDERS ONE AND FOUR.  CARRIED OUT COMPRESSION TEST ON ALL CYLINDERS AND FOUND THREE AND FOUR WERE LOWER IN COMPRESSION THAN ONE AND TWO.  REMOVED AND REPLACE COIL PACK HT LEADS AND SPARK PLUGS ADVICE TO CUSTOMER THAT THE VALVE SEATS COULD BE AFFECTED BY CARBON BUILD UP AND SUGGEST A SODA ENGINE CLEAN AS THIS PROBLEM COULD HAPPEN WITHIN THE NEXT 3,000 MILES (REPAIRS AS OF THE 9TH JULY)

I am monitoring the mileage of my car at the moment and everything seems to be fine.  Do Skoda Roomster in particular have a problem with engine carbon or is it a myth.

Thanks everybody any adivce appreciated

If you but decoke in the forum search ,it comes up with lots of threads on the subject.May be of some help in making a decision.

Did they tell you what the compression reading where? This might be a case of up-selling.

Wasted spark coil pack failure is pretty common - which I think the 1.2tsi has. My Octavia 1.416v which had a similar coil pack was on it's third and indeed it seemed to fail roughly about every 60,000 miles.  PS Wasted spark means the coil pack whilst it has four leads attached only has two coils. Each coil drives two spark plugs - hence the name "wasted spark" as each time a spark is generated it fires one cylinder and is "wasted" on the other. A failure on a coil will affect two cylinders though.

If it's driving well and has a smooth tickover - keep calm and carry on...

Edd China of Wheeler Dealer fame advertisers Tetraclean which is a treatment to clean out engines and it was featured on one of the episodes. Whether it is effective or not, who knows.

Chemicals do mot loosen the soot / carbon deposits. A walnut shell blast with the intake tract removed helps and makes everything shiny and new.
