SE L front indicator bulbs

Featured Replies

I have an SE L ordered and hate the fact they have old fasioned orange indictor bulbs.  I want to change these to silver ones.  How easy is this?  On my current Ibiza there is plenty of room to access the bulbs from behind, is the Kamiq as simple?

Thanks

So you have orange bulbs with presumably clear lenses and you want to use plain uncoloured bulbs?

Unless I have misunderstood I'm glad you are a long way from the roads that I drive on.

The OP said they wanted silver bulbs not clear, probably something similar to these: https://www.philips.co.uk/c-p/12496SVB2/silvervision

They look silver/chrome when off but emit the normal orange when on, pretty sure the Philips ones are also ECE approved which is nice.

I'm not familiar with the Kamiq so I'm not sure how to replace them I'm afraid, if you haven't already, I'd start by checking the owners manual :)

Exactly.  Its a style thing

OK, I understand now, - thanks to you both and my apologies to the OP.

Yes an orange bulb under a clear lens does look kind of odd when sunlight catches it, I would prefer it if indicator lenses had to be orange by law, some of the recent "styling" attempts by manufacturers have rendered them incapable of fullfilling their intended function.

Detangoing, a brilliant phrase!!!

Could anyone with a Kamiq that has the front Indicator bulb have a look and see what the access is like and how easy it would be to change?  I'd really appriciate it thanks :)

I'm interested also!

Would like to use my old LED indicator bulbs off my Octavia on my Kamiq (when it comes... 💀)

No one replied yet ?

When I first got my Kamiq I was interested in the indicator bulbs in that how do you change them if they fail? I read somewhere that they are intended to last the lifetime of the car but I am sceptical about that. However, when you take a closer look it seems as if they really are impossible to get at without some extensive dismantling, possibly even of the bumper. I’d be interested to hear if anyone had managed it.

I'm afraid to say, the official method is likely to be removing the bumper and then the headlights.

It appears to be similar to the Yeti and MK3 Octavia where there is no access panel for the indicator:

You'll need to cut/snap that panel out then find a repair cap (part 20) plus screws to cover the hole:

To give an idea of what's likely to be involved, the Erwin instructions for a Yeti can be found here:

MK3 Octavia is pretty much the same, namely remove bumper, remove headlight, snap out panel, fit new bulb, fit repair panel and reinstall everything:

I have recently purchased a 2023 (January)  Kamiq and wishing to upgrade all the bulbs to LED, I  had a look at the front indicator bulbs, I noticed that they are part of he daytime running lights housing, I could quite easily see that there was some sort of what looked like an access port on the rear of the housing in line with the bulb position, but because of a bracket just above it there was going to be no way of getting easy access to it to replace the bulb. I then decided to actually remove the bracket completely to enable my hand to pull off this "access plate" or so I thought, lol.

That "access plate" appears to be part of the whole daytime running lights unit, nothing would free it, even had a strong pair of pliers on the protruding tab to pull it off, no go !

I have also worked out that the daytime running light unit is also fixed under the unit, its easy enough to undo the fixings accessable above, but the unit is still held in place after these are removed from below, shame.

Also I have already replaced the reversing buls for LED, just waiting for the rear indicator LEDs to be delivered then I'll do them, no great problem.

I think I realised pretty early on in my investigation it wasn't going to be worth doing so gave up on the idea.  I only have 2 1/2 months left with my Kamiq until it needs to go back.  Its probably been the best car I've ever had so will miss it :(.

Out of interest, what are you replacing it with?

The DRL and headlight are all one unit, you can't split them:

It'll take considerable force as it's a moulded part of the headlight housing. Although there is a designed weak spot, it won't be easy to snap/lever out which is why it's a bumper off job to get good access.

Please make sure you've sourced the repair cap before you remove it ;)

A Kia Xceed GT Line.  I'd have happily kept the Kamiq however it was a 3 year lease deal and I'm not able to keep it without paying a lot more for it per month.  Again to go for another Kamiq was considerably more per month for a lower spec car (SE rather than the SE L I currently have)

Hi Stepday - what reversing light LED bulbs did you find that worked without tripping a Canbus error message; Ive tried a few different options but none that do the job without that screen warning

Sorry mate, they do still show an error on the dash  ( In got them from Auxito who described them as canbus error free, YEAH RIGHT)  fitted them in my previous 2017 Seat Ateca, no errors shown, also upgraded rear indicators on that with no problems.

I shall be upgrading the rear indicators on the Kamiq, expecting to get errors shown, only way round this I believe is to have the lighting systems re-coded to a different value so it does not expect so little resistance, HOW though ???

Thanks for clarifying; I suspect that some of the more (much more) expensive LEDs advertised with in-built resistors may well do the job but prefer now to wait until I find someone who has succeeded where you and I have failed ....

Lol - Point taken mate -  these weren't particularily cheap,  AUXITO ERROR FREE CANBUS T15 W16W 921 42SMD LED Side Light Reverse Backup Bulbs £10.42, so I assummed that they'd work ok at that price.

However I can't wait , so I will see what's about on the LEDPERF site,  pricey I do know before researching !!    I suppose I could I manage with not doing the rear indicators but the reversing lights are a must.

Let you know how I get on.

Stephen

I just remembered.

I did change the boot light bulb to a led and had no problems , strange , just a T10 two sided flat led. ( Sorry but the system will not allow me to copy / paste ).

Stephen

The ones I've seen advertised with resiostors cost in mid £20s so I guess you get what you pay for. Good luck with your next attempt and I'll follow with interest

Hmm I can't say that Ive actually seen any that were advertised with resistors all ready built in, might be a cheaper option to try.'

I changed all the internal, including the boot, bulbs to LED with cheap ebay purchased bulbs and had no issues with any of them.

I should imagine that the interior lighting is on a completely different electrical circuit than either the indicators or reverse lights, hence its not to fussy.

Funny thing is mine already had full Led lighting inside the car, was surprised that they had not done the boot light as well.

Have sent LEDPERF an email asking if the bulbs they claim to be completely error free for the Kamiq, can you get your money back if they are not error free?   ( looking at about £40 )
