Virtual pedal stopped working

Featured Replies

Hello,

Decided to post this in the Kodiaq forum too as there's not really many Superb owners with the virtual pedal option fitted so hoping for a broader target group in the Kodiaq?! So, my virtual pedal seems to have stopped detecting my foot movement since a couple of months.

And I have to politely say "No!", I didn't suddenly forget how to operate it so please don't suggest I try again in a different way :blush, I had mastered the right way to swing my foot within the first week and NEVER failed to activate it at first try ever after for a whole year and a half.

Then suddenly this summer it just gave up on me. One day it did a weird thing were it opened on its own (luckily I was close to the garage and realized it) so i thought it became alive again but nothing.

In the current conditions I'm a bit hesitant allowing random people be in my car, let alone drive it so I was wondering whether this has happened to others and whether they found a "dealer-less" solution to it....

I had the same hing about half a year back. Two weeks didn`t work. Then suddenly started to work again and still works.

What I remember trying to resolve the matter was, that first you have to clean the undertrunk sensor. If this doesn`t help then it`s probably time to change the sensor.

Yeah it was like a day or two that it got back to life but then stopped again. According to another owner the sensor is actually a strip inside the bumper, like in this photos:

If that's really the case there is not much to clean since the strips are not visible/accessible? Or you mean some other part?

I pressure wash the car regularly and I wonder whether this has affected the sensors...

I read a lot then and one thing I remember was cleaning. Maybe older models (Audi for example) had open sensors.

I pressure wash (Kärcher 160 bars) all the time, hardly this is the cause.

So something really weird has happened soon after I posted this. I realized by chance that the "Rear Traffic Alert" and "Blind Spot Monitor" assists were turned off without me remembering to have done so. Only explanation is this happened couple months ago when the car was dropped at the dealership briefly for another reason.

I re-enabled them (I wonder how I didn't notice the Blind Spot being off all this time...), then gave another go to the Virtual Pedal and it worked like it was working since the beginning. I opened/closed it a few times and all worked at first try (a sign I hadn't forgotten the technique). Now I can't see why either the "Rear Traffic Alert" or "Blind Spot Monitor" assists would be a prerequisite for the Virtual Pedal to work but turning it off and trying my foot failed to open the boot!

Re-enabled them, turned off and on it boot and Virtual Pedal was again working... Maybe it's a bug and these assists (probably just the Rear Traffic alert) need to be on on vehicles that come with them? Need to experiment some more but all i know is it is now working fully all the time as before after I enabled them, will keep an eye and report if it ceases again.

Just for people who come across the same issue, check your assists are all ON! you never know...

See, if the Blind Spot Monitor is still enabled.

They probably forgot to connect the car to the computer at the dealership after solving your issue.

Nowadays the cars are like virgin ladies. Cannot touch too much.

Every time for example you disconnect the battery you have to recode the ECU. Some features might not work because of this and they just need to be resetted.

It wasn't yesterday when I randomly checked up on my assists via the button on the steering wheel. Neither that nor the Rear Traffic Alert had the checkmark next to them so I re-enabled them, and then somehow I thought of trying the virtual pedal and it worked immediately.  I never remember myself disabling those assists ( not a reason to do so anyway) so it must have taken place during the dealership visit.

The weird thing is the dependency of the virtual pedal to either RTA or BSM being enabled for it to work, if my observation is correct and it wasn't just a huge coincidence of-course.

I clearly recall the Virtual Pedal stopped working one day completely, there weren't any occasional hit n misses or that hesitation to pick up my foot movement, it just stopped immediately after having been working flawlessly for so far so I always felt a setting was messed up but couldn't find which one as "Easy Open" has been checked all the time.

I should check whether RTA and BSM are still enabled today when I turn on again.
