Is this car suspiciously cheap?

Featured Replies

£11K for a 2017 2.0 TDI SE L Executive with 73000 miles.

Comes with a long list of specs which I guess are all standard on an SE L Exec.

I haven't found another one for less than £14K so not sure what's going on with this one.

Could the high mileage be the reason as it is almost double (ish) the average mileage for the year.

Well I'm seeing 63K miles going for £13,800 and 10,000 miles is neither here nor there on a big diesel.

Do you know it's history ?  What is the bodywork like.... Any signs of previous accident damage ?

@EmergencySheet

Welcome to the forum.

The 'Asking Price' is just that, but who is selling it, a Main Dealer, a Trader or a private individual.

Manufacturers Warranty Expired, so can you purchase a 'Skoda Warranty'?

As in has the car been serviced to the Manufacturers Schedule / Guidelines & will a Warranty be valid.

You need to check not just a FMDSH if there is that, but what was actually done at Services, sine there is a Full History, and what if any warranty work has been carried out.

Can you even find out what the service schedule is on a car these days?

I have downloaded the owners manual and it isn't in there

You can check what the Manufactures Schedule or as they call them guidelines are.

Not much on a 3 year old car or even one at 73,000 miles..

Oil & Filter every 24 months or 18,000 to 20,000

Maybe a Pollen filter maybe not in that 3 years.

No Air or Fuel filter in 3 years.

Brake Fluid @ 3 years, but even Skoda Approved Used Cars might not have that done.

Haldex Oil Changes for cars with that should be at 3 years or sooner, and even Skoda Approved Used cars might not have that carried out.

DSG Oil changes are at 40,000 miles.  Same story, only done if someone paid to have done, Approved Used cars might not have had done.

Ignore the prices, that was last years Skoda Fixed Servicing at participating dealers.

High miles on a youngish car is a difficult one. If you see the history has regular oil change and some other bits then it's probably ok but I would be looking for a once over* to be sure.

*

Oil change/filter

Air filter

Fuel filter

Pollen filter

Brake fluid

Check all suspension joints/components for wear

DSG oil (if never done then it definitely needs it. Otherwise due at 40k so worth doing early to be sure)

PS

The car could have had wonderful maintenance and no expense spared, but.

You need to look see that it does not need tyres, wiper blades, discs / pads / dampers etc.

especially look see that the windscreen has not a million tiny stars (chips)  showing when the car is facing the sun.

There shouldn’t be an issue it’s been serviced properly. I had a 3 year old ex rep Cortina 2.0  with 75000 miles and it ran brilliantly, probably as it had done lots of motorway miles rather than lots of short journeys or very low mileage stood about for long periods,  which doesn’t do cars much good.

Why not ask the person who is selling it why its cheaper than other vehicles of that age. If you have any concerns just walk away otherwise you will for ever be worrying about what is wrong with it and expecting something to happen.

There are not that many advertised with 73,000 miles on @ 3 years old to make a comparison with.

110,000 though.

There is a post on here about mine, it was a lease car that went back in April at 3 years old with 63k miles.  Was on sale for 13k ish.

Is it white?

I think they have done away with major service at Skoda dealers . Now it's service with extended scope for bit less than the major service price but have some individual items that you need to tag on depending on age and mileage e.g spark plugs at 99quid

@KeteCantekIndeed they have changed the Skoda Fixed Price & Maintenance.

They changed that in January.

As came up in a DSG thread today, they show that pricing as on cars from 3 years old / From first MOT.

Spark Plugs are not of much interest to those with a TDI, the fuel filter interval might be.

I paid £9,000 for mine in Sept last year. 103k and 3yrs 2mths old. 150 tdi Sel.

So I think £11k is a good price, maybe the others are overpriced?

Thanks for the info. The history seems in order although it was 2000 miles over it's first and second services. I called the warranty company and they stated the warranty is valid as they aren't interested in the service history prior to the sale provided it's signed of by the garage as passing an inspection. Exactly how diligent the garage will be in this inspection is anyone's guess but provided the paperwork is in order it's ok.

I wouldn’t say it’s especially cheap, it’s done twice the average mileage for it’s age, that in itself isn’t an issue providing on the condition of the car.

IF you are looking at the £14k mark then you could do a lot worse than look in the classifieds on here where you can pick up a lower mileage L&K that is just still in warranty, with a few grands with of options on it. :blush
