Gone

This was mentioned during lockdown 1 and someone seemed to think you could bend the lever inwards to allow into function. You can also charge via the 12v socket bas it stays live if your charger has this option?

So - to recap here:

Yes - it does seem to be a design flaw on the MK3's - but hopefully this will assist:

1) You will need a open up the drivers door manually as you suggested.

2) You will need to plug in a 12V charger into the 12V socket.  DO NOT START OR TRY TO START THE CAR AT THIS POINT!!!!

3) Give the car 5-10 mins - and then the battery should have enough juice to actuate the remaining part of the central locking.

4) Press Unlock either in the car (button with Lock symbol) or press the unlock key on your remote.

You should now have access to the rest of the car.

I suggest using a battery charger - such as a https://www.ringautomotive.com/en/product/RSC612 Ring Automotive battery charger - and get your battery back into shape.  Take the car on a good 30-40 mile trip to charge it up and free off the rest of the car's functions (such as brakes) and clutch.
