Internet Explorer 7

Featured Replies

Have just started using Internet Explorer 7 which I downloaded from Microsoft. I think it has improved quite a bit from IE6. :) Anybody else using it? What do you think??

I'm not even going to bother because I use Firefox for all but the most anal web sites and it's far better.

If you enjoy it, then great.

I steered clear of IE7 when I read that some people had problems and it couldn't be "rolled back" to IE6. That was a while ago though, so I guess they've fixed a few things since then.

Glad you're happy with it steadyeddie  might try it myself one day...

I would guess most people will try it when it comes bundled with vista. If it is good I will use it again. I don't partciaulry care who makes the software as long as it does what I want. At the moment firefox is fine but as IE7 has tabs I imagine I will move back to it.

The site says that you can roll back to IE6 by deleting IE7 using control panel(add and remove programs) if you are using service pack 2 with windows XP.

I'm using IE7, it's all good so far. Buttons are much more simple, the favourites button is the best bit so far as it disappears after you have chosen a link. Tabs along the top will take some getting used too as I keep opening a new window instead of using them.

This has always been the case. You can roll back to anywhere you want :D

Yup, Dean Martin. Well spotted.

Do you have a book of funny quotes, or are you just an aficionado of such things?

Oh and my Bank won

Not that much different and maybe no different than IE7. I can't vouch for IE7 but Firefox was always more secure than IE.Info Here. Make your own mind up. You can always un-install it or just not bother with it if you don't like it.

Might give it a try...........thanks

I had a quick look at IE7 on Vista the other day... looks very.. well.. Safari like.. think I'm sticking with Firefox/Safari.. haven't use IE properly for months now... :D

Oh and Google are making legal waves as regards the search box in IE7 being set by default to MSN search, with IE7 being an M$ product you'd expect this but the fact that it's not easily changed to anything else (according to Google) is what has Google complaining.

Coo! Stands by for "Battle of the Giants"

I wonder if the "little people" like Seekz(*) will move in, take over, and become "big people" whilst they (MS and Google) are tied up with lawyer things... :rubchin:

Apols if off-topic - it's sort of relevant methinks.

erm...open ie7 and go to google, you get a button to set google as the default search engine thingy. how hard is that

The only reason Firefox and the like are secure is that is not worth attacking them as they are so small .......what would you do hack millions of IE users or thousands of Firefox .......economies of scale.

tried ie 7 and it messed up outlook so rolled it back .....when the full version comes out I may swap over ...but only when all the banks and such accept it

Hmmm I beg to differ. There's a whole lot more to the story than that. Read Here

so it isn't that firefox itself is inheritantly more secure, it's the level of integration and support for VBScript or ActiveX?

IE7 drives me up the wall.everytime i open a new window or link, the dial connection box flashes up repeatedly.then hangs, stops and closes IE.

so back to firefox i went.

IE7 is slightly faster though(when it does work)

Firefox has a new major release comming out in the not too distant future which I have been playing with from the developer nightly builds of mozilla.org

Not ready for your average user just yet as new features need testing, but well it's nice :)

Oh and Octygone, FF has about 10% of the internet browser market these days. Thats plenty enough, which is why people write evil things targeting FF. It's just that FF will say do you want ot install app "destroy my computer from an untruseted source" and make you wait 5 seconds before you can click yes, while IE will just do it and run it. So in IE anyone can script a page to install something and run it, esp active X to install and run something outside of te browser, without the user ever knowing.

There is the main point of the problem.

M$ have missed the boat as far as I'm concerned, it's taken them far too long to fight back with features that are now old news. I'll stick with Firefox thanks. I'm not even tempted to slap IE7 on to see what it's like :)
