Police replace Holden vehicle fleet with Skoda - NZ Herald

The New Zealand Police have chosen to replace the Holden Commodore (Vauxhall Insignia) police cars with the Skoda Superb Wagon. A no brainer given the space in the Superbs - the Police had to replace their liftback Commodores due to rear passenger space constraints.

It seems to be that the 220PS motor will be used for general duties while the 280PS variant will be used for highway patrol.

Not surprising they'll use the 280 for highway patrol. It's a very underrated car by those that haven't experienced driving one. I can't believe how quick mine is! Australia should do the same.

Now people will mistake mine for an unmarked police car 😂

Just like we always did a double take with the NZ Police holden equivalent

Latvian police cars can be recognized by three roof antennas

British police cars can be found hiding behind hedgerows.

does this bode well for quality and prices of replacement parts ?

what other implications would there be, for private owners ?

It means lower secondhand values, as in a few years all these new shiny New Zealand police cars will flood onto the secondhand market.

?

2,000 to be flooding on to the market, and they will maybe be high mileage and maybe not and maybe no  more abused than any leased or privately owned ones.

They might even be better maintained than the average Skoda and have a little bit of ECU fairy dust magic applied.

?

Was the market flat in NZ for the ex police Holden's that flooded the market?

It won’t. Knackered Police vehicles have zero effect on the particular model RV’s.

Lucky you... The French police only deserve Octavia Mk3...

(also in Hatch version)

They also have some unmarked cars (mostly silver grey ones).

As Gendarmerie they also sometimes deserve Kodiaq:

For Highway patrol, they currently use Renault Megane Mk3 RS, which will be replaced by Seat Leon Cupra in 2021.

Staffordshire Police (UK) have some estates (Jam sandwiches).  Not had a close look at one so don't know what the engine is.
