York Fitness Bike Plan

Featured Replies

Having been inspired to make more use of my free gift from my 79 year old Dad about 12 months ago I recently spent 13 days during a quarantine period at home cycling 320km (200 miles) and taking 14 hours 12 minutes to complete. Starting 3 rest days now so I came up with a plan to do 6 x 50 minute sessions (total 5 hours every 9 days). Judging by the first session today I should manage around 31km per day or 93km over 3 days. By Friday this should see my total reach 411km and I began this fitness regime on Monday 9th November. What I have noticed so far is that the machine seems to calculate that 100 calories are consumed every 4.4km. I am currently 14 stone 7lbs so will monitor this once per month to see if there is any weight loss. I am 1.85 metre tall or around 6 feet tall.

Day 19 completed with 2 more 30 minute sessions this afternoon followed by a nice soak in the bath. Did a further 25km in one hour so totals are now 542km and 23 hours 20 minutes. Maximum this morning 125BPM and 130BPM this afternoon heart rate according to the Garmin Venu which has now gone up from the £200 Black Friday deal to £279 at Curry's PC World (even more expensive at Amazon). Just for reference wife tried 5 minutes on my uphill setting 4 and managed 1.3km and hitting 116BPM and collapsed in a heap wondering how I can go so hard for so long.

Day 21 completed just 2 sessions of 30 minutes today before my 3 night shifts and managed 25km taking the total to 610km and 26 hours. Noticed at 600km went past 14,000 calories since I started this one month ago. BMR or resting metabolic rate for an adult man is between 1,600 and 1,800 calories per day. For a woman it is around 1,550 calories per day.

I still think you should try a real bike on real roads with hills and wind and stuff, bit more real

Active day so far having had a lunchtime 3.3 mile walk followed by 1 hour 23 minutes on the bike which resulted in another 36km taking the Day 27 totals to 800km and 33 hours 23 minutes. Also preparing our Xmas dinner for this evening with carrots, parsnip drizzled with honey, sweet potato and normal spuds, brussels, broccoli with yorkshire pudding and lashings of gravy washed down with a glass of Chilean Merlot. Should be enough Turkey at 1.4kg for the two of us as the packaging states it feeds eight people. Happy Xmas everyone on Briskoda.:)
