Skoda Connect Lite

Featured Replies

Purchased a VW data plug off eBay for under a fiver from a Vauxhall dealer with a VW franchise. Seems to work fine though seeing as I'm handing over all the data to Skoda seems a bit rich to make me drive around to get enough points to unlock some of the more interesting bits. Would be nice if My Skoda worked with the data plug instead of having to connect USB and

wondering if My Skoda will also show the digital service history.

You don't always need a usb connection for MySkoda. Also Skoda Connect and MySkoda are being merged into Skoda Connect as from this week.

For Skoda Connect, I suggest you might just want to setup a WLAN hotspot on your phone. That way, Skoda Connect will record data about your car.

Agreed that having to rack up points sux on SClite....if I could shell out points to Briskoda members then I would.

Roger,

In essence, as long as you have Bluetooth switched on when you get into your car, Skoda Connect Lite will look after the rest of the connectivity for you - its all passive and working in the background.

Go for a drive and as long as your phone can see the sky (for GPS), you will be accurate feedback in terms of your driving style.

The "drive" terminates if SCLite doesn't see any driving movement after 15 minutes.

You should see a notification of your driving (and the resultant information) in your phone notifications.

Thanks for that info. I think it was working, as it has recorded my mileage, range and battery voltage, but all I get now when I get in the car, is it telling me it's connecting, but then does not connect!! Have checked bluetooth and re entered the code of the dongle, but still the same. It is a VW dongle by the way. Do I need to open the app for it to work?

Okay - make sure Power Saving is not on your phone - because that will knacker up SClite.

There is an odderty - if you have ever read the hilarity that is the owners manual, you will realise that translations from Czech to English are not always the smoothest.  I've noticed that when it says "Connecting" it actually means "Connected".  Basically, if there is a Green Blob next to Status, you are all good.  Yellow Blob - not connecting.

I've activated a few features. Today the air intake temperature is 24°C. Whereas the ambient temperature is 5°C. I imagined the intake air would be cooler, but heated enough to prevent icing. Any ideas?

you must be doing more miles than me, so far only activated exhaust gas temperature. if it gets from 5 to 24 it must heat up very rapidly or the temperature sender is influenced by temperatures of the engine. I seem to recall lower air temperature meant more power.

I've not activated the exhaust gas temperature yet. Need lots more points. Just doing short trips and only one longer one so far.

My feelings about air temperature, was wondering where the sensor was.

Yes, you need Skoda Connect Lite for it to work.  App is available on Android or Apple.  The VW dongle and Skoda Connect lite dongle are the same item.

Yes, that's curious.  The car burns more efficiently with cooler air, but it depends on the vehicle and the situation.  Maybe the car is pre-warming the air to an optimum temperature, but 24C seems rather too high.

Short trip 2 mile from ambient start.

Air intake temperature 11.1°C and oil temperature -1°C. Hmm. External ambient, from our local weather station, is 8.2°C.

Ooohhh....not good for the car. I would not rely on all of the matricies being correct on short journeys. Take car for good long blast and see if the info makes more sense after that.

Air temperature is all over the place and much higher than ambient. I did a return trip of around 40 miles today in the same ambient and the sensor figures were quite different each way. I parked up for 3 hrs to have a walk.

I've now activated exhaust gas temperature, Only had one  reading  of 593C.

A problem is that app is reluctant to connect to my Android and I'm missing parts of or even whole journeys. I know that I could do a reset, but saving a back up has not worked yet.

All the best for 2021.

I suspect many of the readings are averages so except on longer journeys you don't see a true figure, on an 8 mile journey this morning the temp was 660, coming home a bit later it was 696. On a 100 mile journey it was up to 792. It's a similar story with coolant and oil temperatures.

I have found Connect Lite to be flawless and my phone doesn't have any issues connecting to the data plug. I use an app called Hotspot Automatic which when it connects to the cars bluetooth sets up a hotspot which the car connects to to get the traffic. As the Connect Lite is sending back all the information to VAG I wonder if you also need a good connection back to their servers for it to work which if I'm hooked up to them for traffic I'm getting. My phone uses Vodafone and I've found the connection very reliable, I also have a usb dongle with a Three sim in it and that's very hit and miss, O2 is just hopeless and I live just outside the M25 in a suburb. Always fun watching the BT engineers trying to get a signal when they turn up to try and fix their appallingly slow broadband.

What is your Android handset?  If it is a Note 9 or a Galaxy S9, then you might have an issue with the GPS receiver that doesn't work properly if it isn't calibrated.

Re: Backups.  Try doing a manual backup when you connect on WiFi.  Whilst there is an option that backups can be made to work either on mobile or WiFi, in reality, it only works when the WiFi card is enabled and there is an internet connection - its a bug.

Using the free app Hotspot Automatic as recommended above. Seems to help the connection reliability. 92% is my highest score so far. Suburban trip of 8 miles to the tip and back.

Hi folks. I have one question. Does new skoda app work for us that have older models (my is MY16) without skoda connect? In the old MySkoda app I used to have some usefully things as well as digital service history. Then all of a sudden this app was killed and i was advised in that app to go and use new app. I did login, I added my car and that's all i can do. I cannot see absolutely anything for my car, just a message to go to dealer to activate SmartLink, which I do not want to pay for.

In the Karoq forum there's a very long thread about the new Skoda App (Skoda Connect app only shows ....) and the consensus is that it's awful and does next to nothing and even then you have to open the app and the trip window for it to record a journey. Quite a few of us have bought a Vw data plug off eBay for a fiver and use Connect Lite which for me is totally automatic and very reliable, records trips, if you add refuelling says how much the trip cost, last place parked. Seeing as it works I expect Skoda to replace it with something that doesn't very soon. I believe it works on most skodas even quite old ones.

Hotspot Automatic isn't really helping. Deleted it again. Only around half my journeys are being automatically recorded by Connect LITE. Limited opportunity to ensure connection has been properly initially, as my technophobic passenger  gets impatient.
