Immobiliser issue

Featured Replies

Hi, I'm looking for some help regarding my immobiliser issue on a Fabia mk1 tdi estate.

Had the problem diagnosed as needing new instrument cluster plus keys at £700 plus.

It's not worth spending that much on a 2003 car so I've bought a set second hand but guaranteed from ebay.

So here's where I need the help. Where abouts is the body module 6Q1937049c and the convenience control ecu 6Q0959433 located on the car and are there any trick to removing them?

The rest is fine (instruments, steering and door lock and ECU) and I will be able to fit them.

Thanks in advance

Before you bought all that stuff did you check the immobiliser solder joints inside the cluster? Very common issue...

Hi, thanks for the reply.  Yes I had the joints re soldered and  it made no difference.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that.

I've read a few posts regarding this subject which is why as a last chance I'm buying the second hand ecu etc.

I'd rather take a loss of £60 than spend £700 plus on a car that's potentially not worth that amount .

Body module is above accelerator pedal, central convenience one is above clutch pedal. Lower dash trim panel removal first, then clutch pedal switch off by rotating. CCM is in a holder that is a bit awkward to remove. Some pictures and tips in the how-to guide for evaporator temperature sensor replacement. Will link you to there in a sec.

If the job isn't a rush, I'd be happy to try to fault-find your cluster instead if you post it to me. Couldn't promise anything, but it might save you a load of grief if I can spot something fixable?

Wino, thanks for the information am going to do the job in the next few days but if you want any of the components I'm taking off please let me know.

Thanks, Dave

I'd certainly be interested in having a close look at the cluster to see if I can work out what's gone wrong. If it looks like I can fix it, you get it back FOC and you'll have a full set of spares. :)

Hi Wino, did the whole change over and now the car starts fine.

I've retro fitted the original central locking ecu as the new (second hand) key would not operate the central locking at all.

So at least I have a car that starts, ru a and lock, albeit with two keys.

So here's the ask......

If I took my original ignition barrel with its reader and put that in the ignition switch, would the car still start?

Can send you instruments and original ecu if you want to have a look at them, just let me know.

Also it seems I have a spare convenience module and the central locking ecu if anyone needs them.

Finally, the guide was spot on! Job was quite easy with it.

Brilliant thanks!

As far as I know the ignition barrel and immobiliser pick-up coil are 'dumb' things that just fit the key and pass immo signals from the fob to the cluster, but the immo signal needs to be the one the cluster is expecting, so from the same car as the cluster.

Are we talking about radio remote central locking or key-in-door central locking?

Not really understanding why your 'matching set' central locking unit didn't work but your old one did. Was the part number exactly the same, including letter at the end?

Hi, yes the numbers were exactly the same.

I hoped if I put the original central locking ecu back it would work and at least I would be able to lock the car, so not complaining about that.

The key from the matching set operated the ignition but nothing else and I changed the battery in the key just in case.

Tomorrow I'll try the lock  barrel swap and see if were still starting, then report back.

One odd thing, the car now tells me when the doors are open, it's low on screen wash and if there's  a bulb off, it never did that before????

I do appreciate your input, thanks again.

The coding in the 6Q1 control unit is probably different to how it was in your old one. Not sure if all of those things are in that unit though.

VCDS could recode easily if necessary.

Screenwash sensing might be coding of instrument cluster, thinking about it. Again easily recoded to remove if your reservoir lacks the sensor.

Yep, sounds like the dash cluster isn't coded correctly.
