DS1 card problems

Featured Replies

I purchased a Skoda Octavia (2018) 1.5L TSI SE Hatchback about 2 weeks ago from Stoneacre. I was trying to update the Sat Nav on the SD1 card, I was unable to remove the card so I took the car back to Stonacre and they released it for me saying that it had a bit of metal stuck in it which they  removed, had they said that they had never seen this problem before.

This is an original Skoda SD card marked as 2017, I'm wanting to replace or upgrade this card for 2021 any suggestions? I have tried to copy the Skoda Portal update using the USB port in the car but all I get is update message on screen, so maybe this card can't be updated. Also does anyone know what the infotainment system is? Amundsen or Columbus or other.

Thanks

I suspect the card has been forced in when in the wrong way and this has knackered the card reader.  Test the card in a USB reader connected to a computer and see if it is readable.  The update has to to be downloaded on a Windows PC or a Mac and unzipped onto the card.  Is your SatNav in the car working?

Thanks for relying. Since Stoneacre released the card the Sat is working but I am unable to update using the Skoda Portal and a USB stick. Not sure whether the unit is Amundsen, Columbus or Bolero or whether it's MIB1 or MIB2 so can't purchase a new SD card until I find out.

Amundsen navigation doesn't work without sd card in unit.

You take the SD card home and update it on a computer with an SD card reader.  You can update the Ents system with a USB stick but not the Nav.  You don't need to buy a new SD card.

Hello Howard

In case it may help:

Thanks for the replies.

I understand that Sat Nav does not work without an SD card, the card I removed is 16gb, Fat32, 32k and contains just 1 folder called Maps using 14gb of data, I know this works because it was working after I had driven out of Stonacre after they had taken it out (it was stuck) and put it back in. So I am now in the process of copying the maps folder from the SD1 card and then I am going to format a spare 32gb SD card (formated) to FAT32 that I have and I will copy the Skoda Portal Map update to this new card and try that. Thanks to Gaz it looks as though I am on MIB2. So my car uses Amundsen SAT nav? not Columbus?

You have to download the maps to the Skoda card, any other SD card won’t work.

Kenny R, yes I have just tried it and you are correct so I will just have to stay with the 2017 SD1 card or use my spare Tom Tom Sat Nav in the USB. Skoda don't make it easy!!

Why can't you update the SD card?

You just put the new downloaded updated maps on to your Skoda SD card .

I tried to update the existing SD1 NAV card via the Skoda Portal update copied to a spare SD card and a USB stick all formated to FAT32 as instructed in the manual. Car reads the SD/USB but says No Data found, even though the Maps folder is on the SD/USB

You can't update the SatNav with a USB drive.

Nor can you use a 'spare SD card'.

The SatNav is looking for a special code written on the SD card in a protected partition..  Have you unzipped all the files from the download?  The file you download is compressed and has to be uncompressed before use.

You must use the Skoda SD Card.  You need to move the Maps folder already on this to a computer for a backup and then move the new Maps folder onto the Skoda SD Card.

Tried all that with the original Skoda 2017 SD card copied the maps folder to my pc and copied the downloaded maps folder 2020/2021 from Skoda portal, to the Skoda 2017 SD card took the card to my Octavia and it says can't find data etc so it seems that the problem is with the Skoda portal download faulty data, maybe?

I think it's a faulty nut behind the steering wheel.

I ask again, have you unzipped the download?  Can you post any screenshots from File Explorer?  Are you using a Windows PC?

I am a retired IT consultant, I understand computers and Zip files, and yes I unzipped the main folder to extract the maps folder and copied the maps folder to the Skoda SD1 card replacing the the old maps folder. I think I will forget about it for the time being and if I need a Satnav I will use my trusted TomTom.

Fair enough.  You can ask another Octavia user to try it in his car.  I suspect the garage broke one of the pins in the car's SD card reader.  It's a bit of luck that it still functions at all.  Did you fully format (not quick-format) the Skoda SD card?  Not essential but does correct any errors on the card's file system.

I finally managed to update my Skoda Octavia mark 3 Sat Nav SD1 from the 2017 data to the 2020/21 data, it's taken 3 days to achieve this, so for anyone having the same problem this is how I did it:-

Take the SD1 card from your Skjoda Octavia to a Windows PC and copy the Maps folder from the SD1 to some where on your Windows PC for safety, (in case something goes wrong) then delete the Maps folder on the SD1 card.

Using a Zip file manager (I use winRAR) unzip the file that was downloaded from the Skoda Portal), directly to the SD1 card (Maps folder + .TXT file) it takes a while so be patient. Once finished insert the SD1 card back into the Skoda Octavia mark 3 and that's it, done!

Thanks to everyone that gave me advice, although some of the advice was confusing, it got me there in the end.

I've been telling you this for days!

Why do you think it did not work for you previously?  You must be doing something different?  I'm glad you have  it updated.

The key point was to unzip it directly to the SD card, I was trying to copy the Maps folder directly from the unzipped file which doesn't work. I've checked all the previous comments and suggestions and I can't see any that say unzip the download skoda portal zip file directly to the SD1 card. But at least the advice given was sound maybe it wasn't clear enough. But thanks anyway, it did help.

If you had searched the forum you would have found plenty of threads on this subject

I always unzip the downloaded file onto my hard disk, and then copy it onto the SD card.

Doing this I have a backup of all the map files (one every 6 months since I bought my Octavia) on my hard drive - which is also backed up onto my NAS drive.
