MY21 Amundsen Map update procedure

Now that raises a question that I haven't yet found the answer to. When you registered with Skoda Connect, did you verify your identity with Skoda via your dealer so you can do dopey things like unlock your car from afar !!

I do wonder whether this needs to be done to enjoy all of the Connect benefits, although my dealer principal thinks that just registration should be enough.

Just after I'd reregistered ( I'd already been registered with my previous Kodiaq) with Connect last week, my infotainment screen offered me an update. It was a generic one, not a map update.

Strange you've had nothing at all for a year, have you tried rebooting your infotainment system ?

No, I've not had to get my identity validated at a dealers to receive map and software updates. In fact when I bought the car I wanted the sales manager to do that, but he insisted it wasn't necessary! But all I seem to be missing is the ability to lock or unlock the car remotely, so I haven't bothered going back to him.

Bryfly,

All we've been told is that the maps will be updated when the roads change in our locality. So if there's nothing to update, you'll be stuck on the original version I guess.

Mine all seem to be correct... and it usually takes 6 months or more for a new or changed road to be picked up by the map developers, and then passed on to the car manufacturers.

Might be worth getting validation then, I'm in the process of getting mine validated so that if I don't get map updates in the future I can at least rule that reason out.

Perhaps I should clarify... I've received several software and map updates without having to get my ID validated.

Was that map updates or just generic updates ? You're obviously registered with Skoda connect, but did you do the full registration verification with your dealer so you get all benefits ?

First update came before I registered the 2nd after I don't think it makes any difference

Copied this from Jelugs transcript with Skoda ........which says needs to be activated which I assume would mean registered, it seems to me that nobody is 100% sure how updates happen, apart from some boffin sitting in an ivory tower at Skoda....

The KAROQ does have the feature to do automatic updates as long as the following conditions are met: The “Infotainment Online” online services are activated. An update of the navigation database for the current vehicle position or route destination is available...

Yeh, but 'activated' just means you have set up a Skoda ID etc, not that a dealer has to validate your identity by seeing your driving licence. That is only required id you want to use the phone app to lock or unlock your car remotely. That seems a bit a of a security hazard to me, and I haven't worked out when it might be useful.

Somehow I opened the car, put the keys in the centre console and shut the door from the outside. The car locked itself somehow. This may be one reason for remote unlock!

.

It's a godsend if one of the drivers - no names, no pack drill - is one of those people who suddenly can't remember whether they locked the car or not, and going back to check is a king-sized pain in the fundament.
