Fabia MK3 estate road noise suppression

Featured Replies

Evening all,

I've just bought a new Fabia estate MK3.  It's the 110 bhp version and I love it to bits.  If there's a niggle, it's the amount of road noise I can hear at the back of the car.

Has anyone else found this and what have they done to help alleviate it?  I've got a "plan" but would greatly appreciate comments and suggestions from those who have done something similar themselves.

My initial plan is to add some soundproofing in the form of Nocoi 2mm sound deadening material all over the exposed metal areas in the boot and under the rear seats.  On top of that I'll add a layer of 4mm Nocoi foam matting.  I'm hoping by just doing the exposed metal areas it'll be enough to significantly reduce the road noise, and save me having to pull out the trim around the boot and doing under that as well.  All in all it'll cost me around £50 or am I wasting my money?

Thanks in anticipation.

Yes, I just bought a 2016 Fabia III estate and I have noticed some drumming type noises from the rear that I think would probably soften with some sound deadening material

I would say turn up the music and save yourself £50

Well I am pretty impressed with the 6 speaker sound system in the 2016 model. Beats my GMC Acadia that cost 3 times the price of the Skoda

Having done a little more research on the road noise I discover the tyres fitted by Skoda are Kumho Ecsta HS51s, these have a noise rating of 71dB which certainly won't help.  My previous Octavia had GoodYears with a dB rating of 67.

Mine has one original Ecsta remaining, on the right rear. The previous owner has replaced the other three with garbage Winrun and Nexen tyres. I'm about to replace them all with Federal Evoluzion ST1

I believe the Federals have a good noise rating so I will be interested to see if there is a change

I'd be interested if you notice a difference so please report back afterwards?

Avon ZV7 are very quiet on the rears. Good grip too.

I am running on the original tyres (they built a tyre factory next door to Skoda ) using the Eco tyre pressures and don't have a problem

The Federal tyres were fitted today and there is noticable reduction in road noise. It's still not the quietest car ever but the new tyres have helped
