Smart link can be done one of two ways, an expensive code from the dealer, or a free method, that needs you to have VCDS of similar tool, so that you can place the radio in developer mode.

Yes, you can have an update to 0490 version, no idea of any functions you can activate.

You need to extract that compressed 7z file to the root of an SD Card, so extract all to M: for example.

And as said by Pab567, you need to be in engineering menu... so press and hold Menu/Setup button for 10 seconds to find page where Software Train is seen, and use that update button.

 

Forget about USB

By "root" of SD Card, this means the bottom folder.

 

Some will make the mistake of creating this kind of path

When it should be extracted to...

F:\

@pab567 This sounds like a hardware fault, recently updated to 0490 version and still errors.

Maybe swap to a MIB2 unit?
