halford touch up paint

Featured Replies

with a fair few chips on the octy i decided to have a go at touching them up. as i was near halfords i popped in and they had a scratch rapair kit for it.

I got the sliver listing in the store.

Using the kits instructions i have filled a scratch in the inner door to test the kit out.

thing is the colour looks nothing like the paint work. seems a lot darker. i'm thinking maybe i didnt shake the bottle, or im doing something else wrong.

has anyone else used one of these kits ?

am i better getting a different kit, or testing it further?

I tried one for the Octy, the correct paint and everything and it was utterly cr@p and sticks out a ruddy mile, it's a good few shades too dark.

Leave it to the professionals IMO.

One other option if you really don't want to go to the expense of a specialist is to go to a larger Halfords that has a paint mixing facility. I used that for my previous car (black pearlesant) and they made up the paint while I waited and achieved a good colour match. The down side is that you will need to buy some decent applicators as the brush supplied is about the size of a tippex brush!!

Of course this is always only going to be any good if you want to treat small chips..

Just get it from your local dealers, most stock the silver and they arnt that expensive.

I got one of those touch up kits from halfords and i must say i think it is ok. especially after you build up a few layers then T cut it. the only way you notice is if your hovering over the bonnet and :orb_cool_ for it.

Alright so its not an exact match but TBH its not really noticable for such small chips.

I spoke to ma local Chipsaway guy before I got it and he told me that even he would struggle get the colour spot on.

In my reckoning it's well worth a tenner as I'd much rather have a darker shade of silver on my car than some of the orange stuff!

And once it get too spotty then i'll get the whole bonnet resrayed!:D

The colour matching of the halford kit is at best **** for diamond silver.

Damn.. I'm sure I read on here the other week somebody saying that the Halfrauds touchup kit was good :(

Anyone used their black magic kit? I was goign to try and repair some small scratches and a stone chip on my furby this weekend...

kaboom - what colour did you get?

maybe i will have another go and buildup the colour a bit more. otherwise it will be a trip to the stealers

Even following the build up instructions on the pack the Diamond silver from halford is much much darker than the orginal colour.

It was diamond silver that I got.

Like i said before it's not perfect but even a professional respray no matter how good it is u'll always notice a small difference with silver! :smrbow:

I might be totally wrong on this but i seem to remember looking at brochure and i have a suspicion there is more than one silver option, you sure you have the right match?

having said that metallics, particularly silvers seem dificult to match anyway But good luck with it:thumbup:

I've got in touch with chipsaway to get the various bits of damage sorted on my car, if I try and do it myself I will get impatient and it will look like the efforts of Wonder & Blunkett Inc.

I supposedly had the correct silver touch up kit for my car and it still looked poop.
