Low coolant warning - but coolant level is OK

Featured Replies

Had a low coolant warning on the Superb today. The coolant level in the expansion tank was ok. Stopped and started the car, and the warning disappeared.

I had the same issues with both an Ocativa MK2 and Golf MK IV, and always at cold temperatures (-10 and lower)

Is this a known VAG issue?

To @Kjetil1Z - I have the same error on my "Skoda Octavia 1 Combi, 1999, 1.9TDI, 110ps". Now I have "Skoda Superb 2 Face Lift Combi, 2014, 2.0TDI, 170ps, 4х4, 6DSG" and for three Years for now, I do not hear for the this error. But if it is the same Problem - it is almost the same solution. In the middle of the coolant reservoir, when You open the coolant reservoir cap, You will see the sensor for coolant level. This sensor have two thin metal terminals, like the on the attached below Photo. This two thin metal terminals, get some type of very thin corrosion layer on it and this is the exact Problem. Try to clean this two terminals. You need something thin and rugged and try to wipe it. If You can wipe about 50% of the thin metal terminals - the Problem will disappear :)

Yeah, my MK1 Octi did it every year over the 12 years I had the pleasure of owning it. First time it did it, I was very alarmed. After a while, it just became a charming quirk! :)
