What's it worth? 2005 Estate

Featured Replies

I'm thinking of upgrading to a Superb at some point in the near future, and trying to gauge what my car is worth.

It's a 2005 55 1.9 TDI DSG Elegance estate.

Currently on 184k miles.

I've owned it for 6 years, and only 1 previous owner, who bought it new.

A full service history with a massive folder containing all receipts for pretty much everything both I and the previous owner spent on the car, including the original sale invoice for the car.

Usual elegance spec, with the following options as well:

Maxidot trip computer.

ESP.

Front parking sensors.

Tyre pressure monitor.

Multi function steering wheel

Mechanically it's pretty sound.

It had a cambelt at the end of 2018.

New AC compressor and condenser.

Recent front discs and pads.

Front bushes were done in November.

New dmf.

Has always been serviced my myself, including changing the DSG fluid on schedule.

Body work isn't perfect as you'd expect for the age and mileage. Presentable but nothing like perfect.

Having looked on a autotrader, eBay Facebook etc I'm finding it hard to judge what it might be worth.

Any ideas?

I may have missed it, but MOT length? Two keys? HPi clear?

It's the right engine, good trim level and a nice colour with low owners. High miles and a DSG might put people off. Where do you see it at?

Have you put the reg no in WBAC to see what BCA value the car at?

Ah yes mot passed at the end of November.

2 keys hpi clear.

Webuyanycar comes up at £500, but after fees etc who knows how much it would really be.

You would be very lucky if a dealer offered you £1,000 in part exchange, however combined with a PCP deal you might get up to £3,000 off a new vehicle plus your part exchange making you feel better about letting it go.

Gumtree advert £1495 ? Autotrader will give you a weeks free advert if under a grand.  There will always be a market for a cheap diesel.

Also depends how quickly you want it gone I suppose, and what your new car will be and how its purchased.

Out of the box thought. Keep it as a second car for short journeys, no DPF, supermarket trolley dings who cares, fill the back for tip runs, slide on the ice into whatever who cares. Third party only insurance. I also find BMW and Audi drivers give way in a 50/50 situation when merging in queues etc :-)

Meanwhile nice new Superb for long runs and kept in peak condition, assuming diesel, lower risk of DPF issues.

I would say around 1k private is where a lot of cars seem to hang around after certain age or miles. You do have the option to stick it here in the classifieds

As much as I'd love to keep it there's no room for 2 cars.

A DPF is a worry, but then so would be getting a TSI and all of it's associated problems.

I won't be selling it until I've found a new motor, which given current circumstances may be a while yet.

Whenever I sell a car, I still put up an A4 for sale sign in the car. Old school free advertising!

Well just to bring this thread to a close.

A few days after I posted this thread, I went over a drain cover and clonk, the NSF spring broke at the top.

Also the NSF abs cable had previously been repaired, when wet the ABS light has been coming on more often than not over the past month.

I bought a genuine ABS harness but never got around to fitting it.

I had already bought my Superb so had to get rid of the Octavia.

Listed it for £700 with the faults, had an offer of 650 and deposit paid within 1 hour of it listing on autotrader.

Picked up the same evening.

Can't complain at that!

Well, it's gone (or going) now but I was going to say I think there is always someone after a cheap but decent spec  Estate and I think the DSG is a bonus.............

I would say that though as I have the same make, model, spec, year, gearbox and engine type etc as you had Sam, Lol. Lower mileage though at 140K and no faults at all (touch wood).....

Just passed it's MOT too.....

I would have thought you should get a grand but so long as you are happy with the sale that is all that matters. :)

Hoping to upgrade my car myself soon also..........

A good cheap car for someone.

2 years ago I was delighted to buy a 2006 Elegance Estate needing work for the MOT for £750, it had lower mileage, cant recall exactly but maybe 112000 miles, being over 100K made it less desirable to many but not to me.

It only cost me £30 to repair, I registered it in France very cheaply (about £100) which included the equivalent of road tax for as long as I owned it, I drove it for 2 years and 20K miles and sold it for 3 times what I paid for it.
