Navigation and reverse sensors intermittent failure

Featured Replies

Something strange happened to my vehicle this morning. I tried to input a post code into the navigation, but although there was initially a map on the screen, it refused to find the address, or any address. Turned the ignition off and on again, no joy. Had to use an old garmin nav to find the address. When I got there, I had to reverse up close to a low wall. Although the sensors started to pick it up, once I got a couple of metres away from the wall, the sensors went quiet and the screen stopped showing how close I was. Very odd. 4 hours later it was just the same for my drive home. However, half way home I thought I would input my address and it worked perfectly, odd! Although I have it booked into Skoda under a warranty claim the week after next, I just wondered if any other member has had something similar. Hopefully a code has been made and they still find the fault, even if it is working again. The reverse sensors however, are still not fully operational. I tried putting a box behind the car when I got home and when I reversed close to it, again sensors stopped seeing the object. The box is about 17inches high by 24 inches wide. Or 43cm X 61cm in modern language. In the past the sensors would have gone to red before I got too close.

Sounds like an MIB potential issue. Had odderties on my MY16 Scout that similar to your reported problems.

Assuming MIB2 system and probably an Amunsden, but if you can give us the device and firmware then we might be able to assist.

Press and hold Menu and go to Versions for firmware info

Hi varaderoguy. Thanks for your help. Here is a photo of my unit. I pressed menu and held and got this screen up. Did not see the word firmware, so pressed "HMI versions" instead. The next 2 photos are what came up on the screen.

Almost there. You definitely have an Amunsden system and you need to press Software Update/Versions to get the required info

You can either update it yourself if you ask @pab567 nicely for a link or try and get a dealer to perform the update (TPI 2049459/10).

oooohhh - YUK - 0471 - Super old.

Yes, speak to @pab567 - give him those screenshots above and he'll send you a link to get the firmware for you.

It an easy job to do - download and decompress the firmware files onto a standard SD card, go to the same menus for updating the firmware and let the car do its magic.  You might want to find an expert closer to you when Lockdown expires to do the upgrade if that would help (the process is not completely full-proof): @langers2k is in Cambridgeshire and I'm in the Scottish Borders.

However, if you have Zoom or Miccysoft Teams, then I'm sure we can talk you through the process on a video call.

Hopefully an update will fix it. As it's booked into the dealer on the 1st of February, as well as me being not so good with tech, I will let them sort it. Hell, I have only just worked out how to use an abacus. LOL. Thanks guys for your help and information.  Will update this post to state any improvement after my garage visit.

Okay - I'm always suspect of dealers doing the upgrades; at least you know now how to check to see that they have done the actual work.

If you are still stuck, I can send you an SD Card and we can do this over the Phone or Zoom.

Whilst they are there - get them also to put on the latest maps - 2020/21 (from Skoda) or the latest 2021 maps are on the forum.

That is really great of you mate. Last time I upgraded the maps, I cheated. I bought an upgraded SD card from Rustynuts. Saves me making a mess of it myself.

Update-- Just had the car into Skoda to look at the problem. Of course they looked at any codes and found only one, stating my key fob battery needed replacing. I replaced this battery a couple of weeks ago, so just an old code. They did say they have had the Navigation problem once before with another customer and it was due to the NAV SD card being at fault. The SD card  I was using at the time was an updated one I bought from a member on here a year ago. They also offered to update my original NAV SD card for me for free. As to the reverse sensor fault I had, they could not find anything wrong with the sensors. Maybe the sensor fault was a one off, but at least it is now on their system if it ever crops up again, especially after the warranty runs out middle of this year.
