ARB triple square part of bolt seared :( can anyone help

Featured Replies

The rear on both sides just sheared the top section of bolt where triple square is while undoing nut.

it is right next to brakes so no room to drill out etc.

Anyone over come this using jack stands not on a lift 🤷🏻‍♂️🙈🙈

They are so thin

Sorry, so annoyed I forgot.

A bolt with the final section of bolt missing where you put the triple square in. Nut and rest of bolt fine. By the brake caliper not on the anti roll bar. Not touched either of those.

I might just leave it as the drop links are not worn. I was just finishing a suspension renew. Was not going to bother with them.

Stupidly I changed my mind.

Both bolt / nuts each side are rusted solid, so not going any where.

Nah, even with workshop manual photos I can't locate your problem.

Are you saying you twisted the head off  XZN bolts leaving the bolt and nut remaining?

Yes exactly what i am saying.

Thanks for looking at the manual, really kind.

i turned the nut and whole ball was turning. Put 6mm spline in, turned bolt. Top section sheared. Only about 0.5 cm depth is cut out of bolt for triple square.

this bolt.

Is that the bottom joint of the drop link? If so that'll be hex or torx.

From the pic I'd suggest a cutting disc on a grinder.

It’s a triple square, or it was 😂.

might leave it, or get a dremmel. Just a pain in butt on axle stands to get under.

Remove one of brake caliper guide pin bolts which should then allow the caliper to pivot around the other guide pin if the handbrake isn't applied.

You may then have clearance to drill the bolt, remove whichever guide pin bolt will allow best clearance when pivoting the caliper or simply remove it altogether.

In the end, even caliper off not enough space to drill out.

A decent set of lock pliers did the trick.

Well done, not much to work with.

I hasbthe exact same problem with the front drop links last weekend, then the ball joint decided that all wanted to snap too.

Currently running one lowered shock and spring!

It's so frustrating :wall:

Did the ARB link snap off the ball joint? If so, while I was looking for ways to solve my problem I came across this idea (second half of video) where it shows putting a groove into the ball to get some grip.

No, I just cut the drop links off, but they the lower ball joint on the wishbone, all 3 bolts snapped.

And to top it all off I couldn't get my new strut far enough in to put the pinch bolt in!!!

It's been an absolute nightmare, never had issues like this on previous cars.

Sorry, being thick. Yes seen that happen with ball joint. I replaced them too, wheel bearing and struts and coils and top mount.

The nearside strut was a pig for me. I had to remove it as would not go all way in. Then sand all the rust away at base of knuckle. Might get a Dremel for next time.

A trolley jack under the hub can help to ram tight struts home.

Oh I tried that, along with putting the wheel back on and dropping it as fast as the jack would allow.

I've had no choice but to drive on it and it still hasn't dropped into place.

It's booked in at the garage on Tuesday for it to be sorted along with anti lift kit and rear arb and heavy duty drop links.

I found the strut spreader tool was junk. My metal too old and just crumbled. Used a chisel in end. Not ideal.

What did the garage want labour wise to sort the strut?

They said about 3 hours labour to fit everything.

It's got the rest of the lowering kit in the boot. I couldn't be bothered tackling it again, pass the head ache on to someone else.

It's was £250 to fit all suspension, anti lift kit, rear Anti-Roll bar and adjustable drop links, with wheel alignment included.

wow, that’s good. my 4 wheel hunter was 70 quid.

Yeah, I've spent a bit of money with them recently after my engine failed, so worked me a good price.

Wheel alignment was £50
