Idle very high 2017 Octavia vrs Diesel Auto

Featured Replies

I have a 2017 octavia vrs 2.0 diesel and it’s auto, I’ve just bought the car and  I’m having a problem with the tick over, when the car is cold it ticks over at 1100rpm even when it warms up to 90 it ticks over at 1000rpm unless the start /stop kicks in or I turn the ignition on and off and then if ticks over at 800rpm only when it’s warm is this normal ??? I’ve already done a forced regeneration of the dpf but still not difference etc

Your car might be doing a dpf regen.

It’s been like this for over a week bow 🙈

If it was doing a regen the stop/start would be disabled.

The stop/start has been working, but when the stop start kicks in it ticks over at 800rpm

Did you buy through a dealer? If so I would make them aware just in case.

Have you scanned to see what values the dpf is showing?

Sounds like time for a proper 'italian tune up' to see if that helps.

Auxiliary heater on? Pretty sure my revs are higher when its on cause it draws so much current

The idle of the diesels is higher in winter due to extra loads put on the electrical system so what is being reported is quite normal. Switch off the HVAC system and all the electrical toys and the idle should drop.

I was gonna suggest this also, very big consumer.

If its up to temperature, battery has enough charge, not doing a regen an there isn't a high electrical load I can't think of anything else that would cause high idle so it may well an issue somewhere either that or your just not giving it chance to warm up and its normal. how long does it idle high for if you don't use stop/start?

It idles high until the stop/start kicks in and then it idles at 800rpm it will be over 90 before the start stop kicks in etc

Have you checked the elctrical consumer screen to see if its the Aux. heater coming on? If it is the bar will be way over to the right

Mine (2016 2.0 TDI DSG) has been behaving very similar to this for the last week or so and as far as I'm concerned its normal due to low temperatures and greater electrical demands.

From cold the revs are around 1100 for a while. From the HVAC menu button inside the fan speed dial (might be different on your 2017) I have the Auxilliary heater ticked (its an electric heater not run on diesel) the car warms as normal in 3.-4 miles on dual  Start stop will kick in fine after a while too then revs go back to normal ~800rpm.

Its just being "Simply Clever" and running at optimum revs to keep the battery management happy.

As others have said if you turn a few electrical gizmo's off then you may see a change and but get cold toes for a while.
