Just purchased but I miss anti fog lamps

Featured Replies

Hello all,

Nice forum !

I just received on Thursday a Skoda Octavia 2020 version, ambition finishing. I have added some options when I ordered it, but I realized that It simply miss the anti fog lamp ...  I supposed that the LED anti fog option was to replace halogen anti fog lamp option, but there is none ! I was a bit upset about that ... Most of the car have them, and I wonder why removing them in a car that cost almost 30K€ !

Is there is a way to add them afterwards ?

The car is nice, but there are two much options to navigate into and the purchasing process is quite cumbersome I found ...

This is a pity I never had such issue in the past when purchasing  cars in the past

I think this is to make the price very attractive and then adding options make the price the same as other cars.

I have looked a lot of videos in youtube, and there (very nice)

No one knows ?

I meant fog lamp, anti fog is a French terminology

I have asked the dealer and he is still waiting for a reply.

I have noticed that there are some panels that can be removed, not the whole front of the car.

Thanks

I'm sorry that I can't help you, but just out of courtesy I thought someone should reply. I'm not quite sure what you're referring to. My vrs has fog lights in the lower bumper and they appear to work OK.

Mine has not, and I was very surprised that it has not.

I thought that the LED was an option to replace halogen fog lamps; but indeed if you do not take them: you have nothing at all, not fog lamp.

The dealer of the car did not make me aware that no LED fog lamp == Not fog lamp at all.

So I share the fault with the dealer, I think.

So my question is simple: Is there a way to have them installed in a regular workshop, or it is impossible because they need to be install in the factory ?

Hi, I think as the car itself is such a new model, you may struggle to find someone who has even asked this question let alone had the work done.
I would start by speaking to the dealer and asking if there is a kit available to buy. I imagine car repair business’s will have to have the means of replacing broken lamps in the event of an accident.
the wiring may also be available to buy.
An auto electrician could wire the lamps but you may have have to run them to a separate switch inside the car, if your car doesn’t have the functionality to activate the front lamps (which I doubt  it will from factory)

The above is all theoretical based on previous experiences many many years ago when modifying my Peugeot 309 SRi (single fogs in front bumper) to look like a GTi (fogs and driving lamps in front bumper), but I had to buy the new bumper and light kit. ✌🏼

I have asked the dealer last week, and still does not know...
yes like you, I think , if the car has a front accident, those part needs to be replaced anyway ... I have noticed that there are small panels to remove to install them

on the other side this is a button, but I guess it needs to be connected to the central computer to indicate in the front display that it is turned on. And that could be a showstopper...

Whatever you manage to do, keep us posted and I wish you well with the project. 👍🏼

Looking into configurator on official Skoda site Ambition level has front and rear fog lights while Active level has only rear fog lights.

Stupid question but are you sure they delivered Ambition level speced car? Is everything else as it should be with the Ambition line?

French configurator shows Ambition trim not having fog lights. They’re a €290 or €400 option, depending on whether you want the cornering function.

The video posted in the first post isn’t French either, judging by the price shown.

You need to look at the specification to your market. Just because it has the same name, doesn’t mean the equipment will be the same.

Yes purchased in France in Nov 2020, Ambition level + some options like 17" wheels etc ... 150 HPS 1.5 engine

The fog lamp, were not there.
And I thought that a car of this price would have them by default (there are much more inexpensive cars like Dacia, not entry level, that have them).
At least Halogen lamp (or standard lamps) should have been put, I thought that LED lamps were a plus on top pf standard lamps.

I'm living in place with some elevation, and to be inside the clouds is not so rare.

Raw price of this car is 29K€

"Just because it has the same name, doesn’t mean the equipment will be the same."

Within E.U or say  Europe I did not think this could be possible ...

Well that sums up everything. Unfortunatelly it is really up to you to do the homework when specing up your new car and not relying on anyone on sellers side. I had to lear that myself too... When i was specing my Octavia at the time being i knew MUCH more than the seller about every and each option in the configurator, even so that i found couple of big mistakes in the configurator which were than changed. Sure, when buying a car of 30+ k € youd expect the sales person to know every detail and that they would keep reminding you of each detail but we are still not there...

Anyway i hope you find some solution in the aftermarket.

Today, I got the reply from the dealer and he said this is not possible today to add them.

Reason : this model was released in Oct 2020 and it is too new. May be in the feature will be possible in the next month, he told me that he had another customer where back camera was missing and added later on when the kit was available.

This is VERY frustrating, that such a car is missing such feature... I'm really disappointed.

The configurator on the web is VERY misleading !!!

But how much do you really need fog lights? My previous car didn't have them. And in 13 years of owning it I have never missed the fog lights.

yes this is a good point... say 3 to 5 times a year.

I'm going to places with high elevations and roads inside clouds... not so rare, but not so often. But this is a bit ridiculous / mean I think for a car of that price.

Yes, I know. I understand your frustration.

Someone mentioned the reversing camera does anyone know if you can buy as an add-on? I don't really need one to be honest but it would be a cool project. As for specs yes it's a joke and it's easy to get caught out, I had no idea I would have no reverse camera when my previous 3 skodas all had one as standard and the the spec listed 'parking assistant'.

Can’t really blame Skoda and the specs in this case. What was ordered was delivered, to the letter.

Yes but configurator is misleading sometime... And too complex. I think they want to keep the base price very attractive and put tons of options, and at the end price can reach other more expensive cars

Are the LED fog lamps from Style package physically different from the LED fog lamps "with cornering function" which are part of the upgrade or it is just  software related stuff?

I disagree. I don’t speak French and understood perfectly what the standard spec was and what the options were.

What did you find misleading about it?

It is tricky @Alphonse777, as usually through the lifetime of a model being out the configurator may change several times. For example, I've just ordered a vRS and I know when it first came out that it had a heating steering wheel as (free) standard to the UK market, but when I ordered it last week I understand this is no longer a standard/free thing and is part of a cost option. I have this knowledge from this forum and a Facebook group, not the dealership (not bothered about hot steering wheels by the way). I understand your frustration @Alphonse777

Caveat emptor.

I'd have thought in most western countries the law requires the buyer to know exactly what they are buying.  If any assumptions are made on either or both sides then unless deliberate misinformation is supplied then the seller can't be entirely responsible. They're not mind readers.

As regards the Youtube link in your first post, I see that's not a French market Ambition - as someone else said it might be different from country to country.  Also that dealer car might have th efogs fitted as part of the additional configuration. dealers will alway prefer to show a car with extras rather than the most basic specification.  Unless you can find evidence that a French 2020 Ambition has the lights fitted as standard you have to accept your mistake.

It always says in the small print - which these days is usually not very small and is very readable - prospective purcahsers should make sure exactly what the specification is on the car they intend buying. Yes, the configurator and specifications do change, and frequently, but I've never not been able to clearly understand what's fitted and what isn't.  I suggest moving on, and just enjoy a great car.

Sorry Alphonse.

If you focus on this, of course. As I said this is not black and white, and I do not purely blame Skoda. I also blame on myself.  I'm trying to find a way to recover from this stupid error. There is a trend where those lights tends to disappear in brand new car.  I think this is a stupid regression, and in France there's montains and clouds stuck there. This is not only Nice.  I considered those as granted, this was a mistake.

Lucky Guy a Vrs :-) Last time I purchased a new car was in 2006, and it was much simpler, now there are full of options, next time I will pay far more attention on this.

The dealer told me that today there is no way to put them. I have to wait few months when parts / kits will become available. He told me that once he forgot to put the rear camera for a customer, and he has to wait 6 months till the kit was to be available, and be installed. So let's cross finger.
