If you have replaced the reversing light bulbs with incandescent ones then double check that they are the correct specified wattage, maybe even swap them out for another pair?

Thanks for the hint. I used this one which matches with the car specified type with registration number.

Others will confirm if its correct or otherwise, I dont have much confidence on the systems that use the registration number but there can only be one or two possibilitys for reversing lights.

If the previous owner fitted LED reverse lights, they may have recoded for the car from them.

The fault codes from Carista look completely mad and don't tally with how VCDS etc show them so I wouldn't put much faith in the descriptions. If possible, I'd get the car scanned with VCDS as at least you'll get a more sensible description. You can also check the bulb settings for the reverse lights at the same time.

As for dead short, the BCM is pretty smart so will apply a small amount of current first. If it detects a dead short it'll disable that light channel to avoid blowing a fuse. If a dead short occurs while the bulb is on, then there is a chance it'll take the fuse out before the BCM can react.

I was looking at the Carista customization software capability, it seems that there are settings for LED vs other bulbs.

Bulb check: rear left reverse light (inside)

Disabled / 12W general light bulb / 27W general light bulb also H15 / 21W rear fog bulb / General LED up to 12W / LED brake lights / General LED up to 12W / General LED / General LED

Bulb check: rear right reverse light (inside)

Disabled / 12W general light bulb / 27W general light bulb also H15 / General LED up to 12W / General LED up to 12W / General LED / General LED

Does anyone know what the word inside in bracket refer to?

Also, does anyone know if it would be possible to see what is the current setting for this reverse bulb using Carista or VCDS?

It's trivial to check the settings with VCDS. No idea about Carista...

At least on my FL vRS, the reverse lamp check are controlled by:

- channel ENG116964-ENG116404-Leuchte28RFL LC11-Lasttyp 28

- channel ENG116965-ENG116423-Leuchte29RFL RA64-Lasttyp 29

Thanks for your help. I will try to see if I can get a VCDS to check out the settings. Meanwhile, I will erase the errors to see if anything would change.

If you look at a rear light cluster, there are bulbs that are on the outside of the cluster closest to the outside of the car and bulbs that are on the inside (closest to the boot).  Reverse light is closest to the inside.

An update on the issue - It is fixed and the fix was easier than expected! It was just one of the boot light diodes shorted! Probably the previous owner short circuited that boot light! So, replaced the faulty (shorted) diode with a similar one and everything is fine again now!

Thanks everyone for their comments and guidance. Cheers
