Knocking noise up front...

Featured Replies

Just recently I've noticed a significant knocking sound coming from somewhere underneath the car on the driver's side, it sounds like its coming from near to where the pedals are positioned, mostly happens on rough or bumpy road surfaces (which constitutes about 90% of our roads!), the car grounded out recently on a speedbump which was actually two speedbumps about half a meter apart (wasn't fully concentrating due to car full of irritable relatives), causing the car to go up over first bump and was coming down again as I came upon the second bump, so hitting the underside of the car. Still drives fine, not pulling to one side or anything serious, just this incessant knocking, any ideas what it might be? Hoping its nothing serious as am considering selling soon so don't want to fork out shedloads to fix it...

Did the knocking only start after your speed mountain incident?

Might be the exhaust mounting i n the centre, quite deceptive where the noise is coming from.

Yes noise only started after my incident, faint at first but over past few weeks has got steadily more noisy, thought it might be the exhaust, but sounds like its coming further forward ie. under the engine somewhere, checked front bumper as it had a run-in with a speed-bump a while ago too, but all seems to be as it should, will have to go to local mechanic and see what he can find...

sounds like it could be gearbox to subframe mount worn i have same problem there about 60 quid

just out of interest does it knock when you change gear as mine did this

turned out to be the roll bar paint had cracked around the mounting bushes causing movment when the engine was under load

Loose corner on the engine bay undertray?
