HAD ENOUGH

Featured Replies

I had issues with my 67 Plate Octavia Infotainment unit. Yes its a pain and I guess like most people if its fitted it needs to work. I have raised tickets with Skoda UK and not just the dealer. I'm pretty sure that any complaints do not filter back to Skoda UK from the dealer so have in the past gone direct to Skoda UK. OK they eventually referred me to the dealer, but they were in the loop and aware of the issues and attempts to fix it. Unless problems are reported back to the manufacturer it is unlikely they will get fixed.

Yes, there are fixes for the issues in earlier cars, I've lost count of the number of hardware and software updates mine has had! But as @PoloPaul mentions after the update to SW 1941 all is good. The

  • Sorry to here this.   If it is failing to do what was advertised, and if you complained early enough, AND the dealer hasn’t been able to fix it (they get one go, not lots of attempts to fix)

  • I took the same path in September 2020. I traded in my Passat for an Octavia IV Combi. Mechanically the car is sound and I enjoy driving it. The infotainment System gave continual trouble for the firs

That's my car left with the garage for the final time. The rejection has now been processed and I'm car-less until the new one (a Tiguan) is ready, prob some time next week.

Thanks for all the group therapy while this has been going on but that's me signing off. Might be back if I ever buy another Skoda but otherwise I hope everyone gets all of their issues fixed (and I really think they should pay their involuntary beta testers for the inconvenience)

All the very best to you. I hope the Tiguan is good.

Doesn't the Tiguan have the same infotainment system :biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

It's a shame we have to go do this route. Enjoy the Tiguan. I'm loving the Volvo V90

Hello everyone

Is this a glitch or just the way the Columbus Infotainment works. My Octavia 2020 FE only connects to my phone if I select ‘Home’ then  ‘Phone’ on the screen - this then takes me to ‘ApplePlay’  which I ‘click’ and then my phone connects. I get Apple Maps, Siri (much better than Laura) Messages, WhatsApp etc all through ApplePlay. What if I didn’t have an iPhone!

For my previous car, a Passat - my phone connect seamlessly, automatically when I started the car - great!  Do I really have to go through the process of initiating ApplePlay through Phone- ApplePlay- Select (whilst driving!) in order to simply connect my phone to Bluetooth. Have I missed something?

Thanks.

Mine started off connecting automatically and no longer did, before I sent it in to the dealers. I had to do the same as you.

Yes - I believe mine connect automatically at first. My Octavia had a three hour software upgrade before Christmas and so I assumed infotainment was up to date.

Did your dealer accept this as a fault and corrected it with no hassle?

Thanks

They are looking into it, but I have formally rejected the car because of the myriad of faults with it. Everytime I get in it there is a problem with something.

That indeed is the problem - inadequate prototype testing.

It's worse than that though - It applies not just to the software, but to the entire car.

How do you formally reject the car and what happens after you’ve done that? Do you need to have a documented list of faults or just say ‘I’ve had enough’? I bought mine in September 2020 - can I still, like you, formally reject?

Thanks

It is very difficult after 6 months, but I think it can be done. You have to write to the dealer formally rejecting the car. You list all the problems and any failures to fix said problems. Then wait to hear what they say.

Have you got a First Edition?

Yes. I.5 SEL FE - They clicking and clacking from the transmission - two main dealers ‘can not replicate’ and I can not demonstrate. Had my car in for the 3 hr software update on the ‘back-of’ MY request to investigate transmission noise. Used the My Skoda App to track the ‘test drive’ it was for 90 seconds and exclusively on the garage premises. I hear nothing but noise under 25 mph - so am incredulous as to how the dealership can’t hear!  To be honest the Infotainment and low-voltage driven SOS ‘shocks’ .... I can live with. Problem is....... as regards noise.... since we’re still in lockdown, I can’t demonstrate.

Any suggestions please.

Mine has kangerooing. Dealership says there is no evidence of it, nor no log, but it certainly is there. Hence getting rid.

I would phone and tell them you are thinking of rejecting and see what they say.

I sold my Octavia vRS in 2017 - following DeiselGate. Not just on principle but on the proposed fix which lowered fuel consumption and had complaints against it post fix that there were some "problems". I didn't get the fix and sold the car.

After 4 years of BMW ownership - I was looking to come back to Skoda - namely Mk4 Octy iV. Reading this post, tonight, especially the press article on the Software Development (which in some ways is what DieselGate was all about) - I must have been stupid to even consider it!

Just for information - the replacement BMW is £43k (GBP) which is now too rich for me! The Mk4 iV was a it pricey but I would have gone for the estate. Not now - decision made.

I am currently exploring and have shortlisted the Hyundai Ioniq, Kona and Kia Niro. They're not as good a car on the Octavia - but as the complete package they seem to work and have a lot more standard kit and come in about £8k (GBP) less.

Rejection is easier the earlier it is done

First 14 days for distance purchase (online, phone, not at dealer) by law

First month for not as described (For both these you get 100% money back, beyond that a usage discount will apply)

Within 6 months for faults that can’t be fixed (dealer gets one chance to fix, not multiple goes)

After 6 months becomes harder unless the faults were reported but not sorted

Yes, just list faults, when you reported them, and if they were not fixed

Your rejection is with selling dealer, any arrangement between dealer and Skoda is part of their business (commercial) contract and franchise agreement.  Your rejection is separate and isn’t dependent on waiting for dealer and Skoda to agree anything, so don’t accept that as reason for them to want time to consider.    You are not required to sign any non-disclosure (gagging) clause to be able to reject.

Good choice, do not get an Octavia!

Had no idea there was this level of satisfaction with Skoda. As a near lifetime VW man I changed to Skoda because of reviews. Price was less than for a new Golf (with which - I understand - my Octavia shares the same chassis and running gear.... please correct me if I have that wrong!). I got a full bells and whistles SEL FE model in the Combi (estate) version. So in summary 1. Reviews were excellent 2. I thought I was getting a ‘Golf in Octavia clothing’  3. My model was loaded with bells and whistles at a very attractive price. Have I been ‘had’?  Does anyone know if the equivalent Golf has ‘kangarooing’ and dodgy-infotainment. Or ... is it just that software teasing prior to release was inadequate.

Any views gratefully received. Thank you.

VW has most of the problems. Was a massive recall in 2019. In fact the tech in the Golf is even worse from what I have heard. Huge dissatisfaction with it. And yet the reviews are all great! Makes no sense although I read somewhere that VAG own many of the review sites. Wouldn't touch a VW either, or a Seat.

That's so really sad to say that, as the car has been a real steady uber reliable mile muncher for 20 years. Skoda will be upset and i bet this is more to do with VW mgmt. Ive had a Superb , a MK3 VRS and never had a prob and loved the dealer service. My new 2021 VRS has problems with the software , sometimes really annoying , really distracting and some may say dangerous. BUT i love it , the looks i get , the people who ask.  I had a service tech from the local PORCHE dealer say to me at a set of lights, that he really loved the colour( met grey) and the wheels, He said we have a model in the showroom the same colour. Prob wouldn't get any change out of £120k on that one . So a guy that deals with hyper cars likes an Octy . Skoda got 90% right in this car the software came from VW. IT WILL BE FIXED,, im sure of it

Agree. The car is fundamentally good but can't live with the glitches all the time and the kamgerooing engine. There is great potential but it clearly was not tested properly. Also, the way Skoda are dealing with it, or not is equally disappointing. I have had Skodas since 2000. Never a problem. Now though . . . Such a huge shame. In a few years when everything is properly sorted out I might return to an Octavia mk IV.

That infotainment system, in my humble opinion, is so dangerous. So distracting to use when driving.

I agree with you that issues over the engine are a red line.  Slow and glitchy infotainment systems can be lived with.   The current hire car from Skoda (a Ford Kuga 21 plate)  has a terrible interface and is probably more dangerous as it so unintuitive and clumsy, but it does work without glitches.

Looks like my car is going to swapped by the dealer irrespective of the mph/kmh issue because of another issue (it's not approved for towing when that's what I asked for.  The dealer has been exceptional and despite the problems with the car they've bent over backwards to help resolve it and always done the basics correctly (ringing back when they promise etc.).  The question in my mind is do I stick with the Octavia, which as a car does everything I want it to do (when working) or do I go for a Kodiaq?  I may lose the perceived newest model upgrade in technology, but honestly, I'm not sure I want to take the risk.,

I was thinking the same. I am looking at the mark III Octavia. Maybe older, but many of the features are on the last face lift models and they are a good price now the new model has come out.

I'm not sure what model you're looking for @OctaviaFirstEdit but my face lift MK 3 vRS goes back to my local dealer in May as part-ex, and your signature suggests you're in east mids. If you were in the market for a black petrol vRS estate, then that's a good one to look for!

Thanks! I would love a VRS (used to have a FRabia VRS, which wasd immense), but with two kids and a generally frugal nature, a humble 1.5 SEL is more on the radar. Test driving one at Marshall Leicester tomorrow actually.
