Road noise in cabin

Featured Replies

Thanks for all the information. Your upgrades are impressive. Do you recommend changing the top mounts to the VW arteon to reduce road noise and vibration from rough tarmac etc?

wondering, maybe following can be in higher comfort level due VAG hierarchy
5Q0 412 331 F        x2            OEM Arteon
5WA 412 331 A       x2            OEM Arteon 2022.05.09

i haven't yet got confirmation of compatibility

Thanks again for your prompt and helpful replies. Please be good enough to let me know if you get confirmation of compatibility. Or any other suitable VAG compatible parts.

This.

Every time the topic comes up. There is no more important factor than 1. The road surfaces you drive on. 2. How fast you drive.

The Superb III definitely suffers from excessive tyre noise. I suspect some of this can be tracked down to the bushings they are using on the strut towers. I plan to do the Audi > Skoda swap when I get around to it. Thicker rubber bushings better NVH.

You can make an impact with mods, tyres etc. But there is no escaping the mechanically transmitted tyre > chassis path.

Do you have the respective part numbers for the Audi and Skoda top mounts? If not, just which Audi model the mount is from?

rear Upper Spring Underlay 8J0 512 149 from Audi

will test soon front 5WA 412 331 A from Arteon

Thanks for this helpful reply. Please keep me informed of the  Arteon parts when you can. All best.

you need to have your sounds on louder

Thank you very much for the info! Appreciated.

Can the mounts be fitted to Octavia? And what about with beam suspension?

The kuhmo's seem to have a noise rating of 72dB which seems quite loud and a couple of dB louder compared to other similar rated tyres (bearing in mind 3dB is a doubling in noise level).

I know that is external noise level but even so it will probably translate to some degree to internal noise levels.

I've just got some Yokohama v701 and they are rated at 67db which is about the lowest you can get. I'll try post an update when I have the wheels on the car.

shown dBs really matters

swapping from summer 71dB Continental EcoContact 6

to winters 66 dB MICHELIN X-ICE XI3 gave huge improvement

even 71dB Pirelli Cinturato P7 vs 69 dB Michelin Primacy 3 were noticeable, but not as bright
