Fabia Problems

Featured Replies

Hello,

Vehicle details: Skoda Fabia, 2000 W , Been in front end collision,

airbags deployed. Repaired using all new components.

Here are the results of an auto scan using VAG- COM. Any thoughts on why the airbag module is showing so many errors? Is it the right component or does

it need re-coding (my car doesnt have side bags)

Also the brake light swich has an intermittement error - any experiences?

These errors could be from the accident, have you had the codes erased? did they come back?

I changed all of the relevant components: Airbag,Airbag ECU,Seat Belt/pre tensioners. I then scanned using VAG com ,cleared the errors from the main ecu - but these remain. Either I 've replaced the wrong bits or I am doing something wrong. Need some help here guys. Also the brake light switch and steering position indicator problems keep re appearing - any history here?

The control unit for the airbag has the wrong coding in it. Its looking for side air bags which as you said are not fitted.

It will need the correct coding entering.

I would have thought looking at the intermittant faults in dash panel (17) that they should clear down ok.

As should the power steering one (44)

Hope this helps a bit

Ross

Also the brake light switch needs either replacing or readjusting if possible. It doepends on which type you have as to how you adjust it.

Hi Ross,

Thanks for the feedback. I have been told that providing I have the right part 1C0 909 605 H 08 then all I need do is enter the code 12344 and I am sorted.

Just need to double check the part number before doing so. I presume that if I have the wrong bits then I can swap them but I did give my chassis number when I ordered. I have the registered VAG COM software. Whats the story with the brake switch and steering position sender ?

Thanks in advance

Chris

Sorry forgot to ask why the coolant warning goes off. It has enough water and is not overheating. Seems to be intermittent. Any thought?

Re: earlier conversation. I tried this code out using VAG com but it doesnt clear it. I tried 12344 in the soft code with 00000 in the wsc code. Nothing. hen I tried 12344 in both with the same result. Have I buggered the module now?

Do you know what the code should be?

I think I am getting somewhere now. After WEEKS of struggling with this airbag light I went back to 1st principals and checked the old part number against the new one. They were different. I assumed that as I had ordered using chassis number ,reg number and even part number(supplied by Skoda cust services) that things would be ok. However it seems that someone has screwed up(not me) and supplied the module which is for a car with side air bags! Apparently it was my responsibility to check that the part supplied matched what I had asked for  . Even if I had double checked when collecting the part, I would have assumed that the different part number was due to being superseded. I was initially told by customer services that there is no refund policy on electronic items such as these so I would have to buy a new one! The dealer (who shall remain nameless) has now agreed to swap the module for one he has on the shelf for a 15% re-stocking charge. Normally I wouldn't have accepted this but to be honest I am sick of this so caved in. I have yet to swap the modules over so cant be sure that my woes are over. As a result the job has taken at least 3 weeks longer thanit should have,I bought the registered version of VAG-COM and was made to grovel a bit into the bargain. As you can imagine my opinion of the whole Skoda brand has suffered as a result. Whilst I am not complaining I think that an offer to swap the modules for me would have been better. The morals of this story are :

Airbags are very expensive to replace

The dealer does not always know best

Fellow owners in forums such as this are very helpful

Uwe at Ross Tech is very knowledgeable www.ross-tech.com

All I need to do know is sort the brake light switch, coolant warning and radio code - they should be easy!

I dont know if this warrants a new thread.

I have an Octavia vRS, a few days back the airbag light came on. There was no accident. I had driven it in the morning to work and later the same morning when I started it the airbag light came on. The car has never been in an accident but on 26-7-2005 the vechile had been in a massive flood in Bombay and the airbag module (VW51) had been replaced by Skoda. They charged me an equivalent of USD 500 for this module (not including labour).

Here are the results of an auto scan using VAG- COM.

"00589 - Airbag Igniter 1: Passenger Side (N131)

32-00 - Resistance too High"

My dealer says that I would have to get a new module again. They offer only a 6month warranty. At USD 500 per change this is getting to be expensive. What does the module cost? Cant I change it myself?
