Bluetooth Dongle

Featured Replies

Whats the difference between Ver1.2 & 2.0 compliant ???

Version 1.1 is the old USB speed, 2.0 is the latest and faster data transfer speed for USB ports.

A dongle compliant with both will work with any usb port

You do get 2 ranges with BT dongles. 10 metres or 100 metres.

There are also 3 Bluetooth standards - 1.1, 1.2 and 2.0

I would imagine all are backward compatible and therefore go for the best you can find.

 different versions of Bluetooth as well as USB ports, very confusing:eek:

I agree with Stu, go for Belkin products though

dont worry about it as there isnt any products at the moment that take advantage of BT 2.0 so i wouldn t worry really.

Plus its not like your be sending masses of data across it

I was thinking about the top one here, http://www.shop4memory.com/products/bluetooth-adapter.asp

The reason I asked about Ver2.0 was I had a loan of one from a friend which had Ver 2 on it, it was only 10m range though.

The other thing about getting a version 2 is that if things start coming out which requires it then I'd be better looking for a Ver2 now (although that place doesn't seem to stock them).

About £10 should get you a Class II (10m) USB 2.0 Dlink dongle.

Otherwise about £16 should get you a class I (100m) usb 2.0 Dongle.

Regarding the bluetooth standards I am not 100% sure that BT 2 i standardised as yet, but i know 1.2 is and that has requency hopping to avoid noise from microwaves, wlans etc so I would get a blutooth v1.2 or above.

I would advise a class one if you want to use it anywhere except sat next to the PC as that 100m is outside with no obsticles and optomisitc at best when inside of the house.

Those prices are PC world prices too last i went in to one of them to take advantage of the loss leaders (and only the loss leader ;) )

I got the 10m Belkin BT dongle recently. When i go into the office my Nokia phone auto sync's my Outlook over BT and my PDA also syncs via BT. When i go to a meeting downstairs my PDA and Phone link with each other using BT so i can make calls and receive calls through the PDA. When i get into the car my phone syncs with my Parrot hands free kit.

If i had a 100m range these devices would all try to connect to each other at once causing chaos so i opted for the 10m range type.
