About to buy an Octavia MK3 1.6 TDI DSG.

Featured Replies

I'm nervous about the DSG DQ200 gearbox. The car has been looked after, at 86k miles. Good service history, had the DSG software adjustment when the service campaign (34H5 I think) went around. Wanted some thoughts on it. It's probably fine, right? First car after the old one I got from the parents after learning so it's the first time spending this kind of money on anything other than a house so I'm acutely aware nerves will be higher.

It's this one btw

Probably fine.

BUT,

the DQ200 DSG is not what would bother me since that is just a simple gamble.

The Emissions fix is what would put me off.

That is the new Engine Management they put on and the flow device that they put in the Air Intake.

I would far rather go with a 1.4 TSI than a 2014 1.6TDI CR.

With the VIN you could check if it has been done, or at least if it is outstanding.

It can be rolled back and a remap done.

How does the emissions fix effect consumers? And specifically in this case? It wasn't something I was clued up on.

Give it a quick google.

This can be reveresed if you go to a reputable VAG specialist or plan on having the car mapped at any point.

There have been mixed reviews of the update, some report no change in performance, others say it has reduced performance and economy. It is a tough one but it wouldn't put me off from buying.

Thanks.

I did a check on the Skoda site and this is how it responded, but I don't know if it means the engine wasn't impacted by the cheating and therefore needed a fix, or if the fix was applied and therefore I need take no further action (in the eyes of VAG at least).

My 2013 1.6 tdi, dsg has been faultless. If you're doing the the mileage to warrant a diesel then go for it.

@ords. Had the Emissions fix no affect on your car if you had it carries out?

I put my VIN into the checker & was told it's not affected.

@ords

Have you had it since before 2016 so know it has not been done?

Not a diesel, but our 2015 Polo has the DQ200 and has also been faultless.

DQ200 seems less of a worry than the DQ250 to me. The car looks very nice, especially with that beige interior and the price seems fair.

If it drives okay and you find nothing wrong with it, so long as it hasn't been thrashed or modded, it's probably a fairly safe bet.

From my perspective, the dealer's more of a concern than the gearbox. But that's probably just me.

Checked out car seller

One advantage the DQ200 has over DQ250 is the lack of a DMF. The DMF on the 6 speed is a given that it will fail at some point.
