Hello!

After 6 months of derv tedium, I want a 1.8 20vt car again (I miss my Leon Cupra), so a vRS Octavia seems a really good buy at the moment.

Any good to meet you all :)

yeah thanks ! Went on a mad test drive (one hour!) we got lost !! Still, the car is great, feels rocks solid even after so many miles, not a rattle to be heard. Gearbox is a bit notchy for my likeing though, and its a bit weird not having a 6th gear. I actually went to look at an estate vrs, but it had a towbar and looked a bit rough (was also 3k more expensive). Dealership is very nice as well, met the MD had a few drinks (water!) and had a good chat. Much nice than the SEAT dealers! Nice to be back in the VAG world!

good good.

Well if you buy a high miler gearbox might be a bit worn, but they're usually as solid as a rock... problems occur take it back and have it fixed, but its more than likely your just not used to it yet... i mean comparing the gear boxes between our three they are soooo different and compared to octy my golf's is bloody awful! What your used to really.

Enjoy the drives!

Welcome to Briskoda, glad you like your new car.

Hiya. Glad you like the new toy.

Can anyone explain why Dr Largepants is showing posts:2 when there are clearly three posts in this thread alone?

Thats what I thought tbh. 1st seems to be way further over to the left than on my Alfa and I kept putting it in 3rd at junctions.

The box does feel very different to a Leon. Preferend the Leon tbh, but on the other hand the clutch is much easier on the Octavia

I pulled out of the deal in the end. Was concerned about the miles and the gearbox. Also was basically too expensive.

Still, put a deposit down on an 02 VRS today in Manchester, which is absolutly perfect, not a mark on or in it, and drives like new. Bit more expensive, but well worth it imo. Plus it has a sunroof !
