Manual or DSG

Featured Replies

I currently have a Superb SEL executive, 2.00 diesel, manual. It is a company car.

I am going for another Superb, probably the SE l with towbar.

I am considering the DSG but never had DSG before.

I do about 23,000 miles a year, and also have a caravan.

any help or advise would be appreciated

Until I bought my current Kodiaq I had never driven a DSG before. I can honestly say that now 3 years later my next car will have to be DSG I could never go back to stirring a stick and pumping a clutch pedal :)

Oh and the DSG is ideal for stress free towing.

I would say don't,  my superb sel  is a manual , my uncle has  a Kodiaq  DSG, I've also driven a superb  dsg  as a courtesy car.  The fuel economy is much worse in my experience.  If you don't pay for your own fuel maybe worth it.  It  was also  very reluctant to change up.  One big advantage with dsg (I think) is the adaptive cruise control will work better as it will bring you to a stand.  If  it's a company  car and you don't buy your own fuel my issues with dsg  probably  aren't worth  worrying about though

If you found it reluctant to change up sounds like you were in sports mode, which would tie in with your fuel economy comment.

No it was in eco mode 😂 a karoq  and sports  mode don't seem to go together in my mind.  😂😂

Ordered superb SE L estate in Petrol blue, 2.00l 150hpDSG with towbar and camera.

no delivery times yet but it doubt if it be anytime soon

Well, I still think it's relevant to say to try and get a 24 hour test drive (or longer) and find out which transmission suits your driving style and journeys better.

2 days into owning my first DSG box and it's amazing.  My dad had an Octavia estate with a 6spd box 10 years ago (which I regularly drove), and the refinement thats happened since then means it is now so much more advanced. For everyday driving its effortless especially if you do lots of stop/ start in and around towns.

I’ve just bought a new Octavia DSG and love it. I already know I will never buy a manual car again.

My Wife's the same, after 30 years of driving manuals, the Polo is her first DSG, and she'll never go back to a manual.

Interesting thread as we've just agreed a deal on a manual Kodiaq as SWMBO didn't really get on with the DSG.  We also noticed (after trying three DSG's with a variety of petrol and diesel engines) that they didn't seem to gel particularly well with stop-start and were a bit 'jerky on initial take-up.  The latter may be because we weren't that 'tuned in' to the DSG at that point but it was enough to put us off, although it was very smooth once underway.

Possibly just us but I can see the appeal having now tried one...
