Skoda Fabia 2010 Powerless

Featured Replies

Hi,

My partner has a 2010 Skoda Fabia, and we’ve noticed that the car is very sluggish when moving away especially when at roundabouts and it takes a while for the car to fully to accelerate. We’ve also noticed that the car is very slow when going uphill and loses to speed leading to cars overtaking and beeping at us. We took it to a mechanic and they said the DPF was blocked however there was no warning light on the car like there should be so I didn’t know if I was getting scammed or not as he quoted a price of £300 for a DPF remap. So instead I put diesel particulate filter in the car and drove it on the motorway hoping it would help but the problem still persists. Has anyone experienced similar stuff and if so what did they do to fix it. We’re feeling hopeless. The only solution I have now is remapping the car to increase its power

You don't say but I assume the car is a Mark 2 Fabia TDI, it sounds like it's stuck in limp home mode. There will be a fault code although it sounds like the warning light may have been disabled, we need the codes to take this any further.

As Sepulchrave has said, codes need reading with a fully compatable reader but the following would also assist. Is it a 1.4 or 1.6 TDI as it could be around the change over period. If a 1.4 what model as I understand it the 1, 2 and 3 did not have DPF's while the Greenline has. Has it always had this issue under your ownership, i.e. was it bought with the issue or has it developed during your ownership. Re-mapping will not give more power if the underlying issue is not cured and a DPF remap suggest that the internals of the DPF will be knocked out with the remap just hiding the "modification" from dashboard warning lights. This may lead to an MOT failure if there are signs of tampering with the DPF itself (welds etc). Lack of power could be so many issue such as turbo, how has the garage identified DPF. DPF's can some times be cleaned out if removed from the car as the issue is generally ash produced from the regen procedure blocking, and not soot from combustion. VCDS would allow a review of DPF loading and a forced regen, and if a 1.6 there are apps to allow a review of the DPF status.

@officialsfIf it is a 1.2 or 1.6 TDI has it had the 'VW Emissions fix' carried out.

If so then that will need rolled back before a remap can be done.  First the issue currently needs dealt with once diagnosed.

....If the DPF was "Emptied" And coded out, then you replaced it, you would also need to re-apply the software so the car knows it is there again and also have to have e forced regen, as the car will still think it is blocked up. A new DPF being around a thousand quid, are you sure that is what you replaced? A Greenline will have a light to warn you, some cars do not. I think you may have meant you put DPF filter cleaner and if already in limp mode, this won't be enough. It is used PRIOR to limp mode, if at all.

That quoted price does sound like the kind of cost of a forced regen or DPF removal, though. Bit costly for the first thing, better deal for the second although if they bodge that, it will cost a fortune to rectify, with a whole new filter, etc.

Can you please put in your exact model, so it can be easier for others to advise you.
