What parts are interchangable?

Featured Replies

Okay, so this may seem a little dumb, and everyone will probably tell me if you search I'll find answers, but everything I've found so far is very vague.

I'm wondering exactly what parts are interchangable between the VAG cars? I have a PFL Fabia 59, which I believe uses the PQ24 chassis, and after 2010 they use the PQ25 chassis? What exactly are the differences, and what can be interchanged still between these different chassis and years, and what cars are compatible to be changed with my year car? I understand the Polo and Ibiza parts can be used as long as they're the same year, but what about the A1? I've found a set of used lowering springs for a 2014 A1, but I don't want to spend the money if they aren't going to fit to my chassis. Doesn't the MK1 Fabia use the same suspension set up as mine? Only strange thing I've found is that the wishbones on mine are the type that house all 3 bushes, as opposed to the MK1 type that have the weird wishbone set up where the arm houses into a bush that sits in the subframe, does this mean I have the newer chassis or is this just something that was changed from the MK1 to Mk2 anyway? Any help would be much appreciated!

I always convert any car I buy from rear discs to drums. Said no-one, ever.

  • Yeah cause the standard drums have the best handbrake in the world and don’t sieze.    watch you don’t break that mirror

  • He really doesn’t. I can’t even count how many times in how many different threads he’s had to be corrected.

Only the first year or so of mk2s had the same wishbone style as mk1.

Ah, I see, hate that design on wishbone, was so glad to see that mine didn't have that type!

No idea why, the early wishbone handles much better when polybushed.

Yeah it was a rubbish initial bush design, and awkward to replace them; worst of both worlds.  :D

Fraid I don't know anything about compatibility with 2014 A1 stuff; someone will hopefully know.

May be worth looking on the 7 Zap Skoda and Audi sites as there are compatabilty overviews in there.

Okay, different question, will 2014 Polo springs fit into a 2009 Fabia strut? So basically, springs from the PQ25 platform onto struts from a PQ24?

Only someone that for some reason has fitted a diff cars part to theirs would know that.

Whats wrong with using Fabia parts ?

Mk2 fabia uses PQ24 platform

It's more due to saving money on second hand parts, I know, reliability wise and everything second hand isn't ideal, but I've pretty much always used second hand parts on my cars when it comes to modifying. (Least I'm not chopping the springs :D)

There's a member on here called @Carlston who is extremely good at researching the details of wheels, springs and other suspension bits, and finding best equivalences between OE and aftermarket parts. If you're lucky he may apply his impressive skills towards helping you.

A set of new springs really isn't that expensive, you can get Eibachs for sensible money, guaranteed to fit and perform much better than standard.

This "VW Online Parts Catalogue" is great for finding OEM part numbers.

Okay, another question, Ibiza 6j coilovers on a 2009 PF Fabia? Would these fit? Top mounting is a single nut, not sure what else would need to be the same to seat correctly. Any help is much appreciated!

Mk2 fabia uses PQ24 platform

Even though the front half of your fabia is a PQ25?

Wait, the rear beam on these is the same as the mk1? So if for talks sake I got a mk1 vRS for parts for my own mk1, I could put the disc rear beam into my mk2? Sorry for hijacking the thread!

Why on earth would you want to do that?

Yep the rear on the facelift is a PQ24 and the front is a PQ25 but PQ25 rear axles fit but they sit 15mm wider than the PQ24 axles.

One of the main reasons I struggled to get B16s for mine because you can get PQ25 B16s and PQ24 B16’s but you can’t get half and half as it’s not “tuv approved” according to bilstein.

Wider rear axle better stability.

Read it again, he wants to put the narrower Mark 1 axle on a Mark 2.

So I repeat, why on earth would you want to do that?

So he can ditch his drums and fit discs.

Pointless.

May well be, but it was originally a PQ24 and from 2010 just a hybrid of both.............. and I don't think "anyone" really knows which parts of which it uses, the main option with PQ25 was for 4wd which Skoda has never offered,

In all honesty not really bothered as I'm not trying to fit mondeo parts to my fiesta!!....

I'm not going out of my way to convert my car to a disc rear end. I've been keeping an eye out for a parts car to fix up my mk1, believe it or not i've seen two vRS come up. The first was the car I bought the parts from, came a hair away from buying the rest of it but our trailer was being used so that one fell through. Another one has come up but no response from the seller sadly. The way I see it, if the opportunity arose I would be stupid not to.

I take it the PQ25 rear is from mk3 fabias and the like?

Interesting, I didnt know the pq25 rear was wider, aside from stability it might help fill out the rear arches. If a disc and a drum pq24 rear is the same width then that would still be fine. After doing the few odds and ends on the suspension the car feels pretty good at speed anyway.

Indeed.
