Strange beeping noise from front of car – any ideas?

Featured Replies

Hearing an odd beeping noise from around the dashboard area, every 3–4 minutes. No warning lights or other indicators to suggest where it's coming from. Does anyone have any ideas what it might be?

Wildlife trapped under your bonnet?

Check your coolant level carefully...

Do you have a dashcam?

Used to hide credit card sized alarm clocks in mates cars. No one owned a yeti then though so prob not that 😂

Do you have a phone in the car trying to pair with the infotainment system ?

No wildlife, fortunately!

Coolant level looks good – it's only slightly below the maximum line. No warning lights on dashboard either.

I do have a dashcam. It is fitted with a ferrite core around the cable, near the dashcam itself. The DAB radio was switched off in the video. Even so, the radio operates as normal, and there is no static noise interference from that. I've had the dashcam fitted for six months with no similar noise issues.

No sign of any alarm clocks in the car!

I have the phone already paired to the infotainment system, but the bluetooth on my phone was switched off. Do you think it could be a noise from the car trying to connect to the phone? Odd!

This does sound like an electronic sound , low battery? on some device

I have read elsewhere of someone with a similar beeping every few minutes and it turned out that his dashcam couldn't write to the SD card (because it was corrupted or full - I don't know which)

Did you ever find out what the noise was?  I have a strange, fairly quiet 3tone beep, which repeats 3 times, and then again every four minutes ?  Bizarre.  It's just started this week.  I've emptied the glove box, emptied the car, disconnected my bluetooth phone, I don't have a dashcam - it's driving me crazy!  2017 Yeti 4x4 Outdoor.

Is your radio/audio sytem turned on? If so I wonder if you have inadvertantly enabled the tmc/ tp feature (traffic reports).

Maybe your radio is beeping because it can't get a tmc signal, although I'm not sure if there is a TMC system in use in Australia?

TMC has now been turned off in the UK much to the annoyance of many drivers.

Low battery warning?

Boxed unused smoke detector stored somewhere in the vehicle?

That sounds like it could be the culprit.

Hello, I have the audio - in fact the ignition switched off, and STILL it beeps.  I had turned off my phone bluetooth the other day to see if that was the issue, and it made no difference.  Muddyjim,  no I had no idea what the TMC was, but switched on ignition and found it, it has a red line through it, so gather it's switched off.  I don't have the "extras" package for voice control or TMC.  I've also just unpaired my phone (now nothing bluetooth paired) and still the quiet alarm.  I think I'll try disconnecting the battery.  It's only about 12 months old, but, what the heck! - if it gets rid of the noise, it's 100% worth it!  Thanks!

I've attached the noise, it's fairly quiet, but annoying as all get out.  I've just noticed that although the ignition is off, nothing lit on the dash, when the noise occurs (approx every four minutes, the lights on the instrument cluster display switch on, and then a few seconds after the noise, they turn off ???

When instrument cluster lights come back on is there any message in the Maxidot?
Have you left any lights on, including indicators?

Can you clarify that?

Are you saying that even with the ignition off every 4 mins or so when the noise occurs the instrument cluster display switches on and then after the noise switches off. Anything with the key out of the ignition?

Also both the sound and level of your audio clip are very different to what we heard in the video where it was pronounced single beep so is it different when stationery to when actually driving?

I think you need to do an OBD scan to see what, if any, errors you have. OBDeleven is pretty cheap and if you know where to find it subscription free software for your phone is available

The audio clip is from a different car (in Australia).

It's all good!  I think disconnecting the battery did the trick?  It hasnt made a peep since.

I have been making sure to turn off the radio etc before the ignition, just in case, but its solved!!  All good.

Thank you so much for your suggestions!

No, my sound was only the one posted this week (an addit to a previous thread where I asked if they'd found a resolution).

All great since disconnecting the battery. The extra warning lights came up, took her for a run - hey presto!  Loke magic the beeping was gone!  Thank you for your concern, but we're all good now.

Just wanted to update folks on the noise, which is still occasionally happening.

We have now identified it as coming from the rear of the car, and some suggestions are that it's related to the electrics of the towbar. This isn't confirmed, but it may help others experiencing the same issue.

What type of tow bar wiring do yiu have? The proper factory type loom or the cheap (and nasty) relay type?
