Understanding differences between infotainment systems - swing / bolero / amundsen

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I purchased a Skoda Fabia Active MK3 (2014-2018), which is going to be delivered in few days or so. And I'd like to ask some for help with its infotainment system.

If I understood correctly, the unit which comes with the car called Swing. This is how it looks:

The other versions of Skoda however come with units with bigger screens, which I am particularly interested in.

Could you help me with the 2 following questions:

  • Can I replace the infotainment system with ones from another version (ambient, style etc.)?
  • If yes, what are the core differences between swing, bolero, and amundsen? Not sure if there are other models.

What I mainly need is a bluetooth to connect musing from phone, larger screen size, and a navigation system with a possibility to use downloaded maps.

Many thanks in advance for any help!

Yes, you can

Bolero and Amundsen are separated systems - screen plus infotainment reader - while Swing is all-in-one.

Bolero (from MY16 onwards) supports SmartLink (Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, MirrorLink), Voice Control and Performance Monitor.

Amundsen (from MY16) addidtionally supports OEM navigation and from MY18 also Media Command.

@pab567 I assume the reader is being installed into the glove compartment, right?

And, one more question please: Would you recommend to buy one online (e.g. eBay), or it's better to have it done in official Skoda serivice?

Official Skoda service is not capable of doing such retrofit - they are limited with the tools they use. Additionally, unit must be hacked to support features that are not assigned to your VIN. I can deliver full set for installation, if you are interested pls contact me on PM.

Hi,

I've recently purchased a Fabia MK3 Ambition (2015).

I'd like to upgrade the Swing unit to a Bolero unit. The main reason for the upgrade is the addition of Android Auto.

I know this is possible but is it difficult installing the Skoda multimedia box? The glove box currently doesn't have a slot for this.

Appreciate any advice on this.

Its not immediately obvious (there is no branding/labelling on the radios themselves) and there's also some variation (particularly in the "Swing range") between different generations.

But on the Mark 3 range the "Swing" radio has three buttons on either side of the display screen whereas the Amundsen and Bolero have four.

To further differentiate them look at the row of buttons on the Right hand side of the screen, They are labelled as follows (Top to Bottom):

Swing: Setup, Sound, Car.

Amundsen: Nav, TMC, Car, Menu.

Bolero: Setup, Sound, Car, Menu.

Have a nice day.

I hope they can help.
I would like to replace the radio in my car. There are several problems with component protection and smart link activation. Can these be solved without a brand service?

@pab567 I think the above will be your area of expertise to answer if possible.

If the pictures show unit you woul dlik eto install then component protection can by solved by Skoda dealer but even SKoda delaeer might not be able to activate SmartLink - pls share VIN of your car.

With th eunit in the pricture you posted you will NOT be able to have SmartLink activated by Skoda dealer and unfortunately I don;t know anyone who can have it patched. To get SmartLink you can replace your current Swing to patched Bolero.

Is that offer still valid now, years later? System won't let me PM you.

Are 5E0 919 605 N and 5E0 919 605 M interchangeable (SETUP vs NAV)?

I mean are those buttons generating different codes or it is just the text on them different ?

Would a 5E0919605M+5Q0035840C setup work?

I mean I'm not expecting navigation to work - of course- but NAV button taking over the role of SETUP in 5E0919605M+5Q0035840C setup.

Nope, these key generate different code, so pushing NAV in 5E0919605M & 5Q0035840C will just show message "Function not supported".

@kasca050

Smartlink can be activated via eeprom. To protect the component you need ODIS-S online.

@cslac

The functions of the SETUP and NAV buttons can be swapped using the toolbox.

Thanks Pab, I was hoping for bit more flexibility from the system :)
