Death of a Fabia

Featured Replies

Keep your eye on the red Fabia at the extreme RH edge of the frame. That belonged to my son. Thank goodness he (or anyone else) was not standing by the boot - and thank goodness for a neighbour's CCTV.  What a stupid, inattentive, negligent truck driver.

I hope the neighbour has sold that from their CCTV to one of the Newspapers or ensured they have the copyright on it.

That will be a Youtube hit.

Have you never failed to properly close a door before in your life?

Maybe I am alone in (admitting to) being stupid and inattentive.

Were he even to have been looking in his rear view mirror at that time which would have been negligent by the time the door came into view it was too late.

I am more concerned about how the 2 vehicles in the foreground are parked, is that a junction to a side road?

Did someone just call the safety police? :D

Those doors must be pretty heavy!

As you say, good that no-one was in or near the cars.

Hopefully it was just a runaround/workhorse rather than a much loved, much cherished example?

Yes, it was a runaround - although it had been to Skye several times. 2004 model, done c.85,000mls. Very lively and well-maintained. Hey-ho...

Your remark about the doors is spot on. That's why I consider the truck driver seriously negligent. Thank goodness no-one was hurt, or worse - in which event there would have been a serious case brought against him. But there is no point in worrying about near misses. I just thought some in the community might be interested in the video

It was interesting and thanks for posting it, I am surprised that the door swung beyond the 90° point when it looked like the truck was accelerating, the air resistance alone should have prevented it from going beyond unless he braked, I looked carefully a second time and it didn't look like it and the brake lights did not come on, its amazing how it took the car for a ride like it did.

I had wondered whether the driver saw it in his mirror or heard it and braked but it does not seem to be the case.

Glad nobody was injured.

@J.R.

he was turning right, the momentum of the swing will have carried it. air resistance at low speed like that is negligible.

and yeah, those steel doors are chunky.. and the locking bar may have caught on the inside of the hatch thus it dragging it out into the road and spinning it.

really very lucky noone was seriously injured.

Damn
