Latest Store update has Navigation

Featured Replies

My Octavia just updated today and it added Navigation for purchase, 390€ (ouch)

I was thinking of adding it if the price wasn't too high because it's nice to have the map on the virtual cockpit but the price is a bit too steep right now considering i'm already used to android auto.

But good to see they're updating the system.

But this is Columbus infotainment which should come with the navigation already builtin.

If anyone is using the navigation then I would be interested to know how it compares to Waze/Google maps.

I was told when I bought my car that navigation was an optional upgrade in the future.

Over here it is an optional. Trim levels and their extras differ from country to country.

I was also told that and that's why i chose not to add it to the car at the time, i was already used to Android Auto on my previous Opel Astra.

The biggest difference from what i can understand is that with the car navigation you can see the map in the virtual cockpit, and with Android Auto you can't.

Thanks. I am not going to pay €435 if that is the only benefit!

The only true benefit would be that we could see android / google maps on virtual cockpit.. for that I would pay.. all other inventions are completly usefull..

It's early days yet for me as I've only had the car a short time, but the inbuilt navigation seems a bit vague/imprecise compared to Google Maps, I haven't used Waze for some time but might reinstall on my phone and see how that works.

Sorry - I've no idea if this will relate to the MK4 (my MK4 didn't have satnav) but the hire Superb I had for a few weeks did have it and I found one feature on the satnav very nice...

The Superb had a real instrument cluster, not the virtual dash, but still has a small lcd screen within the cluster. Anyway, if you're using the satnav it automatically has the next turn for your journey show up on the lcd screen. You could still configure it to show other options, i.e. estimated fuel remaining etc. But I found it a great feature as it allows you (I mean your passenger of course!) to play around with other stuff on the infotainment screen but it doesn't detract from the driver following the satnav as you still had the next step show up in front of you.

Like I say, dunno if that is possible in the MK4 but I found that a neat little trick and certainly something that is not possible when I have been using Android Auto for navigating.

And to throw my own tuppence of opinion in on the price...is the upgrade really that expensive? It's cheaper than opting for a vehicle spec that does have satnav, so you're getting the benefit of it without having to pay £1k/£2k or even more for a spec that does have satnav but very little else of additional value.

Just an opinion though.

This is also true when using e.g. Google maps or Apple maps with CarPlay. It won’t show the entire map, but it will show turns.

I haven't used in built navigation on my current MK4, nor did I use it on MK 3.5 or MK 3 more than a handful of times. It seems fine, I just find android auto and Google maps more useful, as the UI is also shared with Spotify/audible which is use all the time. Reading out of WhatsApp is also a thing, but often hit and miss when dictating a reply.

Edit: I forgot to say I also don't like how the maps look or the audio...maybe it's because I'm used to Google, but the image quality looks 20 years old.

With the MK 4 using Google maps I do notice directions also popping up in the centre of the dashboard, showing next left etc.

I used AA for satnav all the time in my MK4, I had no idea the next turn displays in the dash. I've deffo been through all the menus over and over, I used to scroll through a few display options sometimes, never seen that.

Mine was an SE First Edition....possibly introduced it after that?

Or I am a total divvy and somehow missed that!
