Climate controls - settings saved?

Featured Replies

Hi guys, Am i right in expecting the climate controls to save to my user (and their key)?  I often drive the car on my own and set the air con to sync.  I have to reset it every time I get into the car.

I have set the keys up already, and they do save the seat and mirror settings.

The Sync setting is not something I have used but from memory others posting on here have mentioned that Sync is not saved to the user profile (causing frustration for some). Whether this is by design or a bug in some versions/models I don’t know.

From my experience, the temperature settings are retained - whether they were the same or not when I switch off.

My climate setting stay always the same when I return to the car next time.

Including the temperature being synced? Mine stays the same except for the sync option which always resets. It is frustrating

Now when you asked again...I'm not sure anymore about the sync option. Let me check.

I remember pressing the sync button a few days ago. And I just checked. It's still synced.

Mine sometimes remembers the temperature (usually set to 18 or lower) but frequently I turn it on and it's at 22.  That and forgetting my sat nav saved locations is mildly annoying.

My 2021 RS Wagon turns off Sync each time I restart too. Which is strange since my 2015 VW AllTrack 132 does not do that yet in many respects they are the same.

I'm being driven nuts having to select recirculate every time i get in the car - I'm at a loss what the point of having personalised users is, if the settings i make get reset every time i get in the car?

Probably due to the fact that it’s not recommended to run recirc mode for long periods.

That is rubbish. I ran recirculate for 2 years in a Honda Civic without issue. My commute length is 13 miles each way for crying out loud.

Yes, but that was a Japanese car and it was back when we were considered mature and sensible enough to make our own little life choices………it must have been a slow day for the EU Vehicle harmonisation office when they slipped that one in………..

I'm reviving an old topic (so I won't start a new one for no reason), 'cause I have a question - or rather a comment - on the "logic" of the climate control.
The "A/C" button (the one hidden in the Clima Menu) has the two positions: green (ON) or white (OFF). However, as I was already assuming, the User Manual indicates that while ON, the Climate Control system will decide when to actually start or not the A/C. This is a bit intriguing for me, since I prefer to know when the A/C is on or off. On most of the cars I've driven so far, there would be some sort of notification that the compressor is actually engaged; either some light on the physical A/C button, or some Icon or pictogram on the Climate Control display.

Furthermore, according to the details in the Manual, the A/C will switch on when the conditions for switching on are met. If we check the Operating conditions for the cooling system in the same Manual, this would imply that the Cooling System will be engaged even when the outside temperature is ~5 degrees C and I'm asking the system to deliver 23 C inside. That's with the Clima set to "Auto" and the A/C set to "ON".

Does anyone else find this behavior as stupid? Or is there something wrong with me? Or is the system actually working as I'm hoping it does, but the details in the Manual are not that well exposed?

For several years now VAG vehicles (at least) have had a compressor that it always engaged (there is no clutch), but the compressor has a variable vane type system which is used to control the compressor performance more accurately than the simple on/off possible with a clutch system.

So the question as to whether the AC is on or off isn't a simple one, it's actually how much on is the AC (0%, 100% or somewhere in between).

A/ C is not just for cooling, and not only for summer use. During the colder months it de- humidifies the incoming air and prevents the windows misting up etc.

Every car I’ve  had with climate in the last 20 years or more I’ve set the temp to 20°C ac on and auto selected 24/7 365.

Totally agree, my AC is also on 24/7/365 ever since I've had aircon (which is 23 years now).

OT.

But as winter is here the Requested Interior Temp & the Ambient temp might be of relevance to many.

If you are someone that lets Stop / Start do it's thing and has it working even when the weather is cold and the system decides it will do its thing.

One thing that might 'Disable it' / Stop it Stop / Starting is a 14*oC difference between the requested interior temp and the outside Air Temp, not ground temp.

It might not be 14 Degrees C difference with some models it might be 16.

PS

The AC Button might be on 365 days, but when the ambient temp is low enough the AC is not functioning.

This might be more common in the next months Oop North than down Sooth.

Totally agree, I've been using it for exactly those purposes quite often; but I never need it on dry/sunny winter days when there's fresh air coming from outside (no re-circulation).
What I meant is a bit different: on most automatic climate control cars, when you leave it on Auto, you'll be notified by an LED, symbol or pictogram when the compressor is engaged.

Ok, thanks! I didn't know that - now the info & details in the Manual start to make more sense. So basically putting it to OFF in the menu will keep it at 0%, otherwise it may be continuously adjusted by the system, depending on the inside/outside conditions and user requirements.

Similar to others' comments I leave mine on all the time - set the desired internal temperature and letting the system do its thing.

One of the things I like is that on those cold dry mornings it sits there doing very little for the first few minutes or so then as the engine warms up the fan speed increases. Far better than being blasted with cold air. Also, I'm impressed at how quickly it clears the mist from inside the windows, way better than any previous car I've had.

Same here. Mine is always on. Actually the air management is so good in this car that all I change is the temperature. Nothing else.

Don't get me wrong guys, I'm on Auto for 99% of the time while driving cars that have automatic climate control. It's just that I'm used to being informed by the system what's on/off and when... in this case A/C on or off.

The only time it will be OFF is when you select OFF in the menu, so surely no further indication is needed or indeed of any value?
