New Toy - LG 32" LCD HDTV

Featured Replies

I got a Sony 40" the other week it's LCD cos Sony have already dropped plasma's as most manufacturers will due to LCD being cheaper and more reliable, the picture is frankly awesome with none of the usuall failings you'd expect on a LCD TV, I've also got a 15" LCD in the Kitchen that I bought about 4 years ago, and the picture on that is shocking, it has all the downsides of an LCD TV but does show how much technology has moved on in recent years.

I used to sell LG and I personally believe they are the best of the budget brands, I sold my brother a 32" CRT LG TV probably getting on for 7/8 years ago now, it still looks great and the picture is brilliant.

Sorry lads LG are not that good they make so many TV's that a **** load of doggy tellys get past there quilty control and plasma;s time is up LCD's are the way foward! I picked my new Philips HDMI 37" today think the English model No. is 37PF5521D [url']http://www.dabs.com/ProductView.aspx?Quicklinx=425X&fb=290&InMerch=1[/url]

All LG lcd and plasma's use the same components as philips...just like skoda use audi/vw components.

LG is the value brand for philips and just like with skoda you get better value for money with LG and all the bells and whistles just without the name tag and price tag.

sorry to say this but your a fool for buying Philips, as they do exact same model in LG with better spec for same price!

Sorry, but I dont totally agree with you there, in principle you are probably correct, but put the new philips LCD next to an LG and the difference in picture quality will be very obvious, The new Philips LCD's are the best on the market at the moment (but you pay for that quality).

Thats not to say that LG arent good TV's too though, especially at the cheap prices, and the 60" Plasma in Comet looks awesome, If only I had a wall big enough!!

I was understanding that LG actually made the LCD's for Philips  Anyone who saw the Gadget Show episode last year that came from Korea will have seen just how massive the company is. Their CEO was interviewed and said "LG make screens for everyone you've heard of".

LG are also a leading developer of OLED technology.

Phillip does not own LG.....LG and Phillips have a joint company...LG-Phillips LCD which develops...LCDs.:D

My old man has a 36'' Phillips LCD with the ambinet lighting....not sure of the benefit of the lighting but the pic quality is good.....but at 1.7k so it should be.

From what I have seen so far..Sony, Samsung and Panasonic have very good pic quality...but again you pays your money although Samsung is a bit cheaper.

I went for a Sony Bravia in the end, very happy with the picture quality, although I have to say the Samsung actually had a slightly clearer picture, only visible close up on detailed objects, but sadly what let the Samsung down was the fact it couldn't display black and the picture lacked depth in dark scenes due to it!

To call someone a fool when they have just shelled out a lot of their hard-earned cash on a new telly seems to be very harsh as well as very naïve. A thing is worth what ever the customer deems it to be worth, if Goochie thinks he has gotton a good deal and likes his telly who are we to argue. Personally I think he got a great deal because he is happy:thumbup:

But he started spitting about LG's being pants and philips are better. just putting him into line so he knows next time. phillips are fantastic and i never said any different. just they use same components as LG as they are a partnership when it comes to new technology Tv's so the quality of picture is the same

Something must be different in them, sit an LG and a Philips next to each other and you will see the difference in picture quality - I promise.

Theres no way philips would allow a partner company to sell something with identical picture quality/features for less than what they sell a 'High End' product at.

Put any 2 tvs side by side running on the default settings and they will be different. Spend a while setting up the picture and they can be made identical. I wouldnt look at 2 tvs side by side though. Look at them independantly, away from each other as your eyes are affected by both screens being in close proximity.

With regard to the blacks on the samsung, most modern LCDs have a setting for the backlight brightness in the service menu. Just access that and turn the bulb down a bit, then compensate for this with the other settings. My parents Toshiba screen was way to bright, turned the bulb down and the picture is ok now.

I have a 42" LG plasma TV, and after not being able to get the right picture for me, spent a few days making minor tweaks in the service menu and I now have what I regard to be a superb picture. The only thing I have connected to it are my XBOX360 and a Mediacenter 2005 PC.

I'm sorry but I just dont agree with you there, you cant sit an

The other thing to remember when buying a telly, don't just go on screen setting in the shop as most of them will be running a really bad input and also maximum contrast and brightness. Most tellies need to be setup properly, such disks as DVE (Digital Video Essentials @ around £14) help you setup your screen or if you want to go the whole hog you can hire someone to setup up your screen professionally but you are talking around the £200-£300 mark which IMHO is pointless for most people who just watch the odd program on TV.

And as to John's comment about the £800 vs 3K yes you are right most panels are made by I think 4 Manafacturers but the electronics are differnet which makes a big difference. Saying that a well setup £800 screen will perform just as well as a £3K screen setup badly.

I just got it out of the box and turned it on..... looks fine to me

Goochie, got yourself a copy of the DVE DVD and things will look even better once you have played around with it.
