New Toy - LG 32" LCD HDTV

Featured Replies

I think SWMBO is soon going to ban me from going shopping on my own, last time I came back having placed a deposit on the Z, this time I came back with a tv.

Its the model I saw before Christmas for

I have an LG plasma, its a great TV and underrated by some. In standby my plasma hardly uses any power at all. More and more appliances seem to only have a standby setting, including home PCs. Did you know that when you shutdown your computer, unless you pull the plug out, its still alive.

One thing is though, it only goes into stand-by? The manual says "to power off the TV, remove the mains supply" - seems a little odd?!

This is quite common these days. I'd put it on a X10 appliance module so you don't need to reach behind the TV cabinet to unplug it.

Good price btw, although I've seen posts about 32" LCD's for

Sounds a good price....will be after a Hyundai 32'' LCD HDTV in the near future....approx

Having viewed most of the brands over the last few months I'd decided I wanted an LG. I'd only budgeted for the 28" though - so to get one size up is an added bonus.

I found there was little difference in picture quality between the Panasonic, Sony, Samsung, Toshiba and LG screens. Possibly related Mr. LG's comment on the gadget show that they make screens for "almost everyone you've heard of"

I diddnt see a Hyundai in action though.

What swung it in the end was the SWMBO friendly remote, clear on-screen menus, great selection of inputs and the design of the casing.

LG has made good stuff for years...but like Skoda....people have to get over perceptions that it is a crap brand.

Sony ****ed badly on LCD market and came into it very late...I believe they buy in the screens....for some reaon I keep thinking the buy off Samsung....Korean manufactuers lead they way for LCD/Plasma at the moment.

Panasonic (boo hiss;)) Viera are very good but very expensive.

samsung are indeed the biggest plasma panel manufacturer and sell to most other makes but not sure on LCD. oh and phil 32"??? you girl! :P

32" is a very nice size IMHO. Though I'm glad I diddnt go for the smaller one I originally planned for.

PAH!!

the bigger the better :D

You've really got to choose the right size of tv for the room it's going in....hell I loe to have a 42'' plasma but it just won't be viewable in our lounge....32'' LCD is the biggest and most appropriate.

Aarrggghhh! stop it, stop it. I just spent £1099 on a special package deal for a Toshiba WLT66 32" LCD tv, DVD recorder and 5" portable and thought I was doing well until I read these posts.

Omg the 32" HD ready picture is Awesome! I'm in Love.

I think your LG telly could well be a good one. But if I can just add, there is so much hype about LCD tellies it makes me mad. I

My Dad has an LG 42" Plasma in his front room, hes been nothing but impressed with the quality.

I bought a samsung 40" LCD last month, any excuse to watch tv! got it with the matching surround sound DVD player, so excellent sound quality as well

Sorry lads LG are not that good they make so many TV's that a **** load of doggy tellys get past there quilty control and plasma;s time is up LCD's are the way foward! I picked my new Philips HDMI 37" today think the English model No. is 37PF5521D http://www.dabs.com/ProductView.aspx?Quicklinx=425X&fb=290&InMerch=1

Are LG not part of Phillips?

can't agree smithy, at big sizes plasma's are cheaper and look better with none of the ghosting and bluring that i have seen on all the LCD's i've watched in shops. and are you having a laugh about the LG TV's?? all the new LG's i've seen in shops recently have been awesome!

in my local curry's they have a 50" LG plasma that is much clearer and crisper than my 2 year old 42" samsung plasma and at the same price!

BTW Samsung and Sony share the same LCD panels it's the electronics behind them that is different.

Things you need to look for on a decent panel is low panel response time 12ms or less to help out with the motion blurring but this only goes half way. The electronics in the panel also help as high end panels have systems that help with motion blurring.

I have just purchased a 40" Sony LCD panel as these are the best out there at the moment but they carry a premium price well the shop one do.

Plasmas are the best for fast moving action like football and produce alot deeper blacks and have a higher contrast ratio but tend to eat more electric and run hotter, LCD are are generally lighter and consume less power.

There are some new technologies which are going to blow both LCD and Plasma out of the water called OLED, SED and FLCD but these haven't been released yet and to be honest are not close to being released AFAIK.

Agreed though LCD is the way forward but at the moment Plasma's are the best for larger screen until the motion blurring on LCD's have been addressed. If you want to see a very nice plasma go and check out the 43" Pioneer PDP436XDE or the 43" Pioneer PDP436SXE both us the same screen but are the one of the best plasmas out there which at the monent no LCD can touch.

Having said this LG aren't the worse and for that price you got a great deal, so as long as you are happy with it that's all that counts really.

A word of advice to anyone buying a new LCD / Plasma, be careful in the big chain shops as the cheaper models HDTV's are usually run with a High Definition signal to make them look good, as soon as you switch to normal Standard Definition signals they can look awful sometimes.

Also, once you start watching digital TV some channels appear a much lower quality than others. Its not the TV at fault, it just enables you to see the pixels and digital compression that isnt visible on a conventional screen.

BBC1 seems to suffer much less from pixelation, with channel 4 being worse. It was interesting to see the other night that the Channel 4 news was coming from an outside broadcast and the picture pixelation and signs of digital compression were that bad it was unwatchable through digital (looked OK on analogue though)

Roll on 2008 when they start to switch off the analogue channels and start to push digitial freeview HD..... Heres hoping !!

Call me an old goat, but i'm going to wait for the price to come down first, reckon it will be sub £500 for a decent LCD telly by Christmas.

You bought a great tv there goochie, Same panel as whats in mine, without the picture in picture and a few little other bits and bobs. The picture on these lg's is just stunning. My dad bought the 37" version of yours a couple of weeks back and loves it.

I agree that you need to look at the size of your room when deciding what size tv to get. I did want a 42", but it would have looked out of place in my small front room, where-as my dads front room is a lot bigger so the 32" would have looked too small.
